I took the girls to pick out Halloween costumes today. I like to go early so they have them to play dress up with before Halloween. It’s neat because they are both at an age where they can walk down the aisles and choose something they like instead of me just picking one out for them. This year I think their choices really suit their personalities.
Maile walked up and down the aisles looking at all the princess costumes. She changed her mind about a jillion times and couldn’t decide between Cinderella, Belle, Hello Kitty Princess. I would hold them next to each other and say, “Now look at the picture, which dress do you like better?” until she finally decided on this little number:
Laina on the other hand, knew what she wanted to be right away. She ran straight to the costume she wanted and I saw the desperation in her eyes. She had to have it.
Now this particular costume was $40 so I did my best to deter her from her choice. I showed her almost every costume I could find that she might like, a cheerleader?? A little dog with flappy ears?? A purple care bear? Elmo??
I even found a blue version of Maile’s costume.
“Look Laina!! You can BOTH be princesses together.”
It was no use, she had tunnel vision. Soooooooo:
They put them on as soon as they got home. Maile practiced walking down the hall, “Mom…MOM! MOOOOOMMMMM! The princess is coming watch me now.” And there she would come, walking slowly, looking this way and that with a sweet little smile on her face. “Oh my!!” I would say, “Look at the beautiful princess!! Ssshhhh everybody, quiet. The princess is coming.” And then Laina would come trolloping behind her and Pat would chime in “and there’s the beautiful princesses….Scooby.”
