Progress??

Those who know my Mom know she’s absolutely brilliant. Every one of my brothers and sisters goes to her for advice regarding anything and everything. She’s very open-minded and, although she loves us dearly, she’s somehow able to give completely objective opinions. If Pat and I are arguing about something he’ll actually tell me to call my Mom and ask her what she thinks about it…and often (too often if you ask me) she does take his side. Anyways, she’s well aware of the “Maile bed time” situation and recently gave me a new strategy when dealing with her.

She told me to explain to Maile that she wasn’t in trouble, but I made a mistake. I thought she was old enough for a big girl bed, but since she’s having a hard time staying IN it, we’d have to move her back to her crib. Brilliant. I thought Maile would hate the idea and would stay in her bed so that she wouldn’t have to switch. I was wrong. She didn’t waste any time, she was excited to get back into her crib and has been sleeping there now for the past week! Every once in awhile she’ll get up for a drink or something, but we haven’t had any of the temper tantrums we had before.

I’m baffled. Is this progress? Mom says yes, because I’m giving her a little more control by giving her a choice and if she likes sleeping in the crib than who cares. I suppose she’s right. It just seems weird to be lifting my almost four year old over the rail of her crib every night. I wonder how long this will last.
