I used to nanny this great dane named Gozo. Technically I suppose I was watching two other children, but Gozo was very much a part of the family. What struck me about him was how human-like he was. He sometimes looked at me like he knew exactly what I was saying. One thing I learned about Great Danes at that time was that they are extremely affectionate and intelligent creatures.
Gozo would inch his way as close to you as possible and then lean his great big body over so that you were kind of supporting his weight. A couple times he even tried to crawl up into my lap and you’re just looking at this guy like “nooo…that’s actually NOT going to work.” I mean the thing was HUGE!
Anyways, I’ve been thinking about Gozo lately because Kainoa does the SAME thing. I lay on the floor and play with the babies quite often. It’s this whole “interactive” parenting thing I do. It never fails that Kainoa will crawl away and find some toys to play with and slowly, without looking, inch his way back and attempt to sit directly on top of my head or as close to it as possible.
The other kids think it’s hilarious because Kainoa is putting his butt in my face. And when you’re a kid there is really nothing funnier than a butt in someone’s face. Especially if that someone is a mom or a daycare lady.
But it cracks me up too. He’s such a mama’s boy and he just likes to be near me. I think it’s so sweet.
k so this picture was totally staged, but he doesn’t work well under pressure and he wouldn’t do it…and I’m not patient enough to sit around with the camera and wait…but this is kind of what it’s like.
I love my boy.

We raise danes.. this is evidenced by the fact that one right now it leaning against my rolling chair and like a force of gravity I am trying to hold myself in place while he leans into me and whines for more attention..but I must go… now sliding away from the key board…..
