GRAMPA: (and I have to do GRAMPA in all caps, because that’s how he talks…in all caps…everything ABOUT GRAMPA is all caps…so if you read this as shouting you’re right on, that’s exactly how he talks. Proceed.)
IT’S SHIT! THAT’S WHAT IT IS, IT’S A BUNCH’A SHIT!
Me: (smiling sweetly) Yeah, he pretty much nailed it. We’re just a bunch of every day people who write about…
GRAMPA: A BUNCH’A SHIT. DON’T NEED TO KNOW NOTHIN’ BOUT NOTHIN’ TO DO ONE’A THOSE THINGS AND WRITE ABOUT SHIT.
Me: It can be anything really. A lot of people just do it as a form of journal writing and it’s kind of cool because you meet other people and they read your stuff and tell you how great you are.
Mom: You know, I read some of Kathy’s blog and she really is like the Erma Bombeck of our time…
Aunt: Ohhhhhh!! Ok….
GRAMPA: A WASTE’A TIME…
Me: Well the really neat thing about it all is that I can take my blog and have it bound and pass it down to my kids. I have written poems and true accounts from their lives and they will have that with them forever.
GRAMPA: HMPH.
That kind of quieted everyone down, because who can really argue with a mom who writes for her children and happens to use the internet as the source for that? Well, I’m sure GRAMPA would have, but the subject was changed (phew) and we moved on to something else he disagrees with…probably international adoption or illegal immigrants or the Civil Rights Movement or something along those lines.
And how sad and warped have I gotten with this whole thing because as I try to defend my little hobby, my mind is thinking, “Oh man, if only my blog friends could be here now…they would SO stand up for me to Gramps…or hide with me under the table to escape his wrath.”
ps Look at Kainoa’s face and the death grip he has on my shirt…we should have a caption contest for him in that photo. “I don’t know WHAT you’re doing, but you’re NOT handing me over to that man!!”

Hahahaha…Kainoa does look scared. Too funny. Ok, so my Grandfather isn’t quite that ALL CAPS bad. :-) My kids aren’t afraid of him or anything. But, don’t tick him off either! He’s a force when he’s upset.
