Meet your chef!
This is Laina preparing to cook up a yummy pasta dish that Maile and Kainoa are no longer allowed to eat. Sorry guys. For what it’s worth you can substitute the pasta for special gluten free pasta (really not all that bad) and technically still have a great meal. Let’s not act like any of them would eat it either way…I certainly won’t go to the trouble of making it gluten free for them. On the other hand I might have to start forcing my kids to eat whatever I cook…Kate from TLC’s Jon and Kate Plus Eight does it…I could learn a thing or two from her. Do you guys force your kids to eat what you cook or do you always have something on the table they like? I usually cook for Pat and I, throw a dollop on their plates and then add other things to the table that I know for sure they will eat. There is always at least one thing they like…and that’s usually all they eat.
I digress.
Your chef actually prepared this about a month ago and I forgot to post it. :) Don’t be deceived by that cute smile folks, I’m convinced our little Laina is part bat. Used to be the best sleeper in the house she now comes in and out of her room until 10 or later if we’re lucky. She is three and a half years old and she still likes to wake me up once a night to come cover her up again. She naps for about an hour…an hour and a half if I’m lucky and then whines the rest of the day about how hungry she is…but only for chocolate chips and marshmallows. Good fun…good fun.
Today’s menu consists of baked cavatelli! You’ll need wagon wheel macaroni, Italian sausage links, chopped onion, garlic, pasta sauce, mozzarella cheese, and pepper. Throw the sausage, onion and garlic into a pan and cook until the sausage is brown.
In another bowl stir together pasta sauce, 3/4 cup of the cheese, and the pepper.
A sample taste is crucial…especially if you’re three.
Dump the sausage mixture and the cooked pasta into the bowl.
Cover and bake for about thirty minutes, adding remaining cheese for the during the last five.
