Writer's Workshop: Uninspired

Could it be that I am uninspired by my own inspirational prompts?? Why yes. It could be. Could it be that it's midnight and I just got home from Alecia's house and I'm trying to crank something out because God forbid I MISS a workshop day?? Why yes. It could be.

So I'm going to do what some of you do and just answer each of them short and sweet.

1.) If you could cut back on something in your life that takes up your time what would it be? And what would you prefer to spend that time doing?

I would cut back on anything I spend my time doing between the hours of 11pm and 7am and I would instead spend said time sleeping. In all honesty I feel pretty good about my time. I spend all day with the kids so I don't feel too terribly guilty when I shoo them away while I'm blogging. I guess I could spend more time cleaning...but....that's not fun. And I only do things that are fun. That's right. I'm a giant child. You all saw the Ellen letter.

2.) Share a recent adventure you had with a friend.
Pass.

3.) Describe a memorable gift. Why was it important to you?

I don't have a most memorable gift...I think people should give me more things. Next week we will have a contest to see who can give me the most memorable gift. The winner will get a plate of gluten free cookies.

4.) If you could change career paths now and be anything you wanted to be...what would you be and why?

I have a friend who is a labor and delivery nurse and...aside from the blood and fluid and vagina's involved, I think the handing a tiny baby to it's exhausted mother sounds like a lot of fun!

5.) 45 Word Obituary:

We were blessed. If only she could have lived forever. Timeless. Like her beauty. She made us laugh with her quick wit...she charmed us with her easy smile...she enchanted us with her thoughtful thoughts...damn we're really gonna miss her. So what's for dinner???

Now it's your turn.

Choose a prompt, post it on your blog, and come back and sign Mr. Linky!!

The Prompts:

1.) If you could cut back on something in your life that takes up your time what would it be? And what would you prefer to spend that time doing?

2.) Share a recent adventure you had with a friend.

3.) Describe a memorable gift. Why was it important to you?

4.) If you could change career paths now and be anything you wanted to be...what would you be and why?

5.) Kim's email:

In the St. Louis News-Dispatch paper, they had an article of a man who wrote his own obituary before his death, and gave it to his sister to post when he died. He summed life up in 45 words:

(Click here to read his words).

I know it's a morbid subject, but what about a prompt about what would one's obit say, with a word limit. You could stipulate that everyone died at 100, so we'd all be predicting what our future would be like.

So there you have it. Sum up life in 45 words. :) Happy happy.

You just cranked that out? You, my dear have a gift! I was afraid of #1. The only thing I could think of was dare I say it...blogging {shudder}. #3 GF cookies! I'm all in.
.#4 You are so evil...and funny. #5I love your obit...and I was actually getting a litle worried there with the time and all...{cuz I hate being last you know I was staying up for Mr. Linky.} I thought Ellen's guards took you away in a straight jacket.

Yes I am rambling...and tired. G'nite!

Wow! For a just done not really feeling it post those were great! I epically liked your obit. Not that I want to ever see it, but you know what I mean! I was a complete blank this week as well!

I think delivering babies would be such a fun job too!

Good crank!

Now that is a great obit and I have read my fair share. It kinda goes with the job of being a ICU nurse.

There never seems to be enough time in the day ... I don't even have kids, and I say that ... If/when i do have kids, I'll need to clone myself.

So I wrote my entry last night and I can't believe our #4 is so similar :) It's ok to feel uninspired, I wrote a few writing prompts to submit to you for next week, now if only i could find that piece of paper!

Had a hard time getting into this too. And, since I'm lazy and not as creative as you I passed, plus I had to send a letter to this psychotic 4th grader who rides my kid's bus. But, enough about me... those were great like usual:)

Those were very good for lat minute. I wish I were as witty as you. Must keep trying. :)

I love that obituary.....makes me want to write my own. To be honest, Kim's e-mail, her brother's obituary, did nothing for me. I was expecting much more. I was expecting something more glorifying....something more along the lines of yours.

Have a beautiful day.

I loved it. Especially the obit. You wrote exactly what I envisioned your obit would say. Not that I envisioned your obit. Often.

I'll be back to post mine when i can get this damn monkey off my back.

The obit was great. Didn't sound too uninspired to me, great as usual!

Love love love your obituary! Totally you and totally hilarious ... and totally true (right?).

And yeah...if they could just clean up that whole birth process, maybe being a labor and delivery nurse could be fun. Maybe you could be the offical "clean baby hander over."

And if you want memorable gifts, you're going to have to offer something more enticing than gluten-free cookies! Just saying!

I did it. I loved it. But now I think I want to cry.

I wrote my obituary, but I'm not ready to go.......

I was gone all day yesterday, too. Super bummed that I wasn't able to draft a 45 word obit.

Texan Mama @ Who Put Me In Charge said...

Okay, I made a really fun song to go with my post. Hope you like it!

I was gone all day too! Bummer. I have another crazy day as well. Maybe next week I can participate again. Besides obits scare me - couldn't do that one! That just freaks me out.

Thanks for coming by - I love matching dresses. It makes it easier for me to keep track of my girls when we are out and about. :)

It's true your thoughts are thoughtful!

Thank you for giving me a reason to share my crazy man humping peacoat experience!

I always like a good obit that has a shoutout for dinner! I also thought that who wants to cut back on something fun in life? I actually preferred cutting back on cutting grass.

Kekibird said...

Sleep?? Sleep?? What's that? Do I need it? It is imperative to my survival?

Michelle said...

Funny ... you're going tospend the time sleeping while I am giving up sleep :)

Jennifer P. said...

ok---I'm going to get in on this late today. I have been too busy filling my sleeping time with that stuff I should be doing during my waking hours. And I am heading off to Neiman Marcus today to find something meaningful. I must, must have a plate of those gluten-free nuggets of deliciousness :)

Erin said...

I thought it funny, you said you would love to hand a tiny baby over to his exhausted mother, but don't you do that now? minus the tiny baby stuff? Hand well cared for kids over to their exhausted mothers as they pick them up after work? =)

Loved the Obit!!

Sorry for the two entries on Mr. Linky, it made me close after I sign up the first time and it when I checked back it didn't show. So I sign in again. Oh well.

I spent a semester of high school as an "intern" in L&D, it was so much fun, but I don't mind all the blood and fluid and body parts.

If I hadn't taken a fabulous nap yesterday once DH got home, I would have stolen your idea for what to do. But what I crave most right now is food that is chock full of dairy, not sleep. My husband made chocolate chip cookies last night, which he ate with a huge glass of milk...so not nice. I made him hide the cookies.

Great prompts! I would not sweep and mop my floors and would instead spend time playing or swimming with my daughter or reading. Anything but sweep and mop!

Have a great day!

Bethany said...

Yippee! I did it for the first time ever.

Jenny said...

Girl you crack me up. I love your Obit.

Soxy Deb said...

I made it! I made it!

I was worried the doors would be locked when I got back here. Whew!

Off to read!!

I love your obituary. I think I might scare too many people right now if I posted that one on my blog. Seriously.

CDB said...

I love the obit too. Make 'em laugh even when you're gone. I have to admit I cilcked on the link to see the other dude's. Interesting.

I'm feeling uninspired lately too. And my dearth of posts shows it. Thanks for the prompts, that helps!

Your obituary is perfect! I hope it does not need to be used for at least a hundred years. What is for dinner by the way? I have to throw something together in 2 hours and 41 minutes and I have NO IDEA!

Thanks Kat for hosting this fun event every Thursday!! I really have fun when I get the chance to play!

I answered them all today instead of picking just one like you! Fun idea!!

Sleep and a succinct obit...you're a woman after my own heart...(Mine might end with "Did she take the corkscrew with her?"

;)

Sorry about the cymbal monkey fear...to me, kind of like a roller coaster...little bit scary, but too fun not to! ;)

Thanks for hosting such a fun time!

I can't seem to get an assignment in on time. Remember I have had Thursday already. By the time Mr Linky is up I have gone to bed and it is Friday here in Okinawa.
Better late than never.

Good job mama!

I'm with you a labor and deliver nurse would be great if your only responsibility was to hand the freshly born child to it's mom.

I just found your blog but, I think your site is awesome!! Thank you for letting me share my thoughts!

What is your address? Not that you have to put it anywhere publicly, but I too believe in gifts.... so if, and that's a BIG if, I were to try to send something to you (DON'T GET YOUR HOPES UP!), uhm, where would I send it? you can e-mail me your secret address. I promise I won't show up. You live WAY too far away. ;)
