Bits And Baubles

I think yesterday marks the first day ever that I received more comments than workshop participants. Wow!! You guys really love my boy. You really do. Maybe we can get him to start his own blog. Maybe he can start spending his time writing out his feelings instead of screaming them at me in frustration all day. :) Sounds like a deal.

So here are some things I've made a mental note to talk to you about, but never did.

1.) I found these pins on Etsy and I was thinking they might be perfect for that potty trainer in your family.

2.) I finished these two books and that brings my 2009 books read grand total up to 14. I'm proud, can't you tell. Even though it took me forever to read them.

This book:

was a little slow going at the beginning. It's written in letter format so it goes pretty quickly, but there are a handful of different people writing the letters so it takes a little concentration to remember who's who. Once the story line starts to develop though (a writer doing research on occupation of the island during WWII and how it affected the lives of the people living there) it was hard for me to put down. And then the ending...oh the ending. It definitely gave me the warm feeling you get all over when you've finished a good book.

I gave it an 8.9.

This book:

Is a true story written by a girl who barely escaped Nazi Germany with her Jewish family. They fled to Shanghai, one of the only countries accepting Jewish refugees and lived in horrid conditions as they waited for the war to end and a chance to move to America.

She tells a story we rarely hear about. I had no idea there were Jewish refugee camps in Shanghai...so it was really interesting to learn about that aspect of the war. Not to mention some pretty unbelievable things happened to this girl while living there.

I don't even know where I got that book from. It just showed up in the mail in a kind of creepy "hey I never ordered this..." kind of way. I wish I would get packages from Victoria's Secret in that same manner. And yet.

3.) Have you guys seen these??

How the heck is this kind of test supposed to know if your child has a penis or not? I'm thinking about taking one right now just to see what the sex of my non existent baby is. So weird...I wonder how accurate it is.

4.) I really want to go to this place. That's a SWIMMING POOL!!

more than 1,000 yards long, covers 20 acres, had a 115ft deep end and holds 66 million gallons of water.

The Guinness Book of Records named this pool by the sea in Chile as the biggest in the world. It's over a thousand yards long, covers twenty acres, and has a 115 foot deep end. Shall we plan a trip?

5.) One of my favorite pictures this week:

Oblivious.

6.) Oh and somebody is coming by to meet Aries today! I took him to a meet and greet and he was a hit. It's bittersweet. He's SUCH a good dog, but things are busy here even without a dog and I feel like he gets left out...especially on the weekends when he can't tag along. I also feel like Greyhounds really need to live with other Greyhounds. They are pack oriented...grow up living together and accept each other easily.

Meeting Aries.

When we went to the meet and greet Aries walked right up to the other Greyhounds and rested his head on one of their necks. I SWEAR they were hugging. He just settled right in with them. The lady visiting already owns two Greyhounds and she's bringing them to see how they get along. I'm hoping it works out because I really want Aries to have some playmates.

I wanna swim in that pool, and how on earth do you look after 3 kids, maintain a fabulous blog and read so many books? Shall I call you supermum??

You've been talking a whole lot about babies lately ... anything you want to share with us?

Yes, we want to know if you're NOT having a girl or NOT having a boy! Unbelievable what they come up with and sad that so many will take advantage of it and likely be disappointed!

Good luck with Aries...I think it sounds like a great fit and hope it works out! I admire your ability to do this, I would be so sad to have to say goodbye to them!

I am in for the trip. I can't swim however, so we need to get me some fashionable water wings. I plan on just sitting at the pool with a full drink in hand at all times, but you never know.

What kind of camera do you use? I am in the market for a new one and your pictures always seem to turn out so good.

Just wondering, how come Aries has to wear a muzzle? I know he can't be a biter or you couldn't have him with your day care and small kids so...

Love your blog!

P.S. I miss your blogversations...

That pool is awesome. I'm all in for a trip there, and I bet there are other things to see in Chile too! ;)

The boy/girl test is just crazy- but the buttons are adorable. Makes me wish I was potty training again- almost.

I was unaware that you could even dig a whole 115ft into the ground. Sheesh! Yes, a trip, definitely.

I just got the Guernsey book from the library yesterday. It's next on the TBR pile - have to finish Julia Child first.

Oh, if you haven't read Julie and Julia yet, try to get it. It's pretty funny.

And the movie with the same name is coming out next month.

AGGHH! I LOVED the Guernsey Potato etc book! I agree that it started slow but by the time I got to the end I didn't want the story to be over!

And I am going to have to get those buttons from Etsy!

My first guess would have been that pool was in Dubai.

I think the potty pins are cute.

We'll have to let Heather and Tiffany know that the next SITScation will have to be there!! lol

Swimming pool?! WTH?! Yeah, I'd like to go there, too. When we're famous Moxie girls, right? ;)

The poop and tinkle buttons are a little creepy.

You should add this post to my best shot thing--I love your favorite shot of the week!

Great post! I loved The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society - great book, great ending! I now want to read the 2nd book you mentioned - looks very interesting. Thanks for sharing!

Holy crap! That's a freaking swimming pool? Can we vacation there?

I don't normally respond in the comments, but Valerie you don't have a website or email for me to reply to! :)

Aries only wears a muzzle sometimes for precautionary reasons. He's a sweetheart, but we don't really know that he won't snap if a child grabs him to hard or something. It hasn't happened...but better safe than sorry.

I use a very simple Canon point and shoot. TOTALLY want a fancy SLR, but I'll be saving for awhile for one of those. I make my pictures look nice by using picnik.com. It's a free site that let's you download pictures and in just a click you can make them look awesome.

I miss blogversations too...I need to start doing more videos. They're fun...it just takes so long to make myself even remotely attractive so I avoid doing them.

Plus I kind of feel like a nerd talking by myself in front of a camera.

I can totally relate to your dog situation... We had to find a great family for our Poindoodle. With all that we do, he was just neglegted, we miss him, but he is with a great family and we know he is having so much fun!

-->I love picnik.com too. I just worked on a bunch of pictures I added for my flashback friday post.

Okay 1st....I'm only finishing my 4th book this year...maybe having a 3rd child makes you a faster reader? =)

And when's the trip? I'm in! Despite Tattoominivan mom's comment about how much pee is in it! LOL

I never would have imagined that pins with poop and pee on them could be so cute.

Jen said...

yes I want to go to that pool and yes I want you to pee on that stick (perferably not while in the pool) and tell me the gender of your not created yet child.

I think I need an I Poop pin for myself. It amuses me.

It runs in the genes, the good blogging genes. I want to read the Shanghai Book, sounds interesting cause I had no idea about Jewish refugees out there either.
I want to go to Chile by the pool too if you get there before me do tell.
Baby predictions, that one has always been a mystery to me. In Romania, they go behind your back when you are not aware and pour salt down your back, if you pick up the fork its one sex and if you pick up the spoon its another. Don't ask, all I know is it works every time.....coincidence I'm not sure, but pretty hysterical either way :)
Have a great weekend.

Dude I just found out I'm having a girl... hook me up with one of those kits and I'll tell you if it's accurate or not!

Love those buttons. I can not believe that is a pool, I really want to go there too ;)

Great photo, I love black and white pictures.

Those buttons!! I love them. I am thinking about buying them and donating them to Logan's preschool classroom. (Just to see the look on his teachers' faces when I present them.)

Karin Katherine said...

Okay, you've convinced me to give Guernsey another try. I got bored and shelved it.

Oh, and now I want to Foster a dog or buy a dog...but not instead I'll follow your adventures.

I would love to get those buttons for myself to wear. I think it would be hilarious. I just know I'd chicken out at the last second though.

And I would have bet money that swimming pool was in the country that builds all that weird and big stuff -- Dubai! (Couldn't remember it until I typed it ... yet oddly I'm not going to edit my comment.)

Michelle said...

MMM I dunno. I'm thinking the thoughts he might project for awhile are ones best left encased in that screaming in frustrtion you hear ;)

Love that pool and I'll have to go get that second book!

I am totally up for a swim in that pool. Looks like they have a few rooms available with a poolside view. Loved the post about Kainoa. My expectant friend was telling me tonight she won't know what to do if she has a boy. I just smiled. And assured her she would be fine...but never the same! I'm glad *Pat* got *his* boy. ;-)

OOh I just love those buttons. My daughter so needs those. She announces to everyone when she does either. Though usually it's just the word potty to mean both.
