Your Assignment, Should You Choose To Accept

There's a new movie coming out that I'm really excited about because it encompasses two of my favorite things...being a mom....and blogging. :) (I swear my husband falls in that category somewhere too...somewhere) The movie is called Motherhood and Uma Thurman plays a mom named Eliza who gets so caught up in the demands of motherhood she fears she's lost herself.

When she starts writing she begins to realize what is truly valuable in her life. I think a lot of us can relate to that...or maybe it's just me. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I laughed through the entire trailer. I think we should all "cyber" see the movie together...what if we all went to our local theatres at the EXACT same time...it would feel like we're really together.

Only not.

The best part is that I somehow managed to make it onto a list of bloggers invited to work with the film and get to do fun things like sit on conference calls with the director and stars of the movie. I'm pretty sure when Uma's interview comes up I'm supposed to ask her about movie stuff, but I think I'm going to ask her if she reads my blog first and foremost...than maybe invite her to get coffee or something?? I don't know. I'm nervous...she'll totally do coffee with me, ya think?

The second best part is that "Eliza" is one of us. A blogger. And she has an actual
blog! Kind of cool that blogging has become such a sensation that it's even made it to the big screen! We are a source to be reckoned with people!!

So! In honor of Motherhood, this week's prompts will be all about your mom and what it was like for you growing up. Next week's prompts will loosely be based on what life is like for you as a mom and if you don't have kids you can answer the prompts as if you are a mom. Ummm...or just sit that one out.

Directions:
For you newbies it's never to late to jump in!! Here is what you must do. Choose a prompt that inspires you most. Write. Come back this Thursday and paste the URL to your actual post (do this by clicking the title of your post after you hit publish, an extended URL will come up in the address bar. That's the URL you want to use) into the Mister Linky that will be up...this way anyone can click on your name and head over to your place to see what you wrote.

Feel free to write on more than one prompt if you so desire. I do it all the time, but it's my game...and I don't know how to shut-up...so it should be expected. And remember the more comment love you give, the more comment love you get so comment comment away.

The Prompts:

1.) Interview you mom...questions might include, How has motherhood changed you? What ages were your favorites? Do you miss having having kids in the house? What was the most difficult part of being a mom for you? What was the most rewarding part? etc... I think I'll ask my Mom if I'm her favorite child and when she dodges the question (again) I'll scream, "DAMMIT WOMAN! Answer the QUESTION!!" Feel free to steal my idea.

2.) Tell us the story of your birth.

3.) How did you parents choose your name? What does it mean? What would you change your name to if you could?

4.) Describe a moment when you realized your mom was more than just a mom.

5.) Write a poem for your Mama.

Which one will YOU choose??

...pop over and visit Eliza's blog if you have a chance!

Ditto on what Summer said. I'll have to skip this one also, but it looks like a great movie :)

Ok Mama Kat, I LOVE this! They are all fabulous! I might just have to write on them all.

You are soooo lucky! You need to write a post about "How to Become a World Famous Blogger and Get in on Cool Free Stuff"

That does look good! And look at you, getting into showbiz in an indirect side route kind of way ;)

That movie looks great. I will totally have to arrange a girl's night out to see it.

That's so exciting that you have the chance to be apart of this!! I am jealous ;) The trailer looks great, too- can't wait to see that movie. I can totally relate, too.

I am not sure where I'll take the prompts for this week 'cause I don't have the best relationship with my mom, but I have a few days to think about it, I guess??!!

Ohh that movie looks good!

I have a couple posts I could re-use for these prompts...is that against the rules??

Eliza commented on one of my posts the other day...imagine my surprise when I clicked on her name and was sent to the movie web site!

I think I'll be skipping the prompts this week, unless I can come up with something positive about my female parental unit.

You know, I got a comment from Eliza the other day and was so confused when I got to the web site. It was kind of fun though because it was a "real" comment ... not just a "spam like" one. : )

You totally have to mention your quest to be on the Ellen show to Uma!! Maybe some strings could be pulled!!!!!

Unknown Mami said...

Damn, I'm jealous. Can you ask Uma if she loves me as much as I love her?

Nikke said...

Blah.
Skipping this week...I didn't grow up with my mum.

Melissa said...

mmmm.... you know that saying when you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all? Well it's not my mom or you I'm applying it to.

Seriously though? A fictional mommy blog to market a movie? Eliza leaving comments and a link to go to her blog but you can't respond to her comment. Interaction, opinions, emotion is what makes blogging work. Blogging fun.

Oh mama kat. SERIOUSLY!?!?

I hope Ellen replies to you soon. At least she exists.

I am going to be able to maybe ask my dad about my name and all, but As for the rest my mother and I are in an on and off relationship and this is one of the off times. I am not sure how to pretend if I was a mom for next week's so I might have to sit that one out too, although you have really good prompts if I was in the on again part with my mom.

That is so totally cool. I think seeing it in a group would be awesome, seeing as I'm the only blogger I know in person, cyber seeing it will have to do. Because we have better things to do on Saturday night in Vegas, right?

Right?

What the hell ARE we doing Saturday night??

OOOOH! Great ones! This should be good.

I can't wait to see the movie too. :-)

I saw her yesterday on TV talking about this movie I really want to see it!

Not sure that I will do the prompts this week, my mom sucks.

I guess I could do the one on my name my dad picked it and it is after his mom:)

Aleta said...

How awesome that you are participating in the movie!!!!! Now I simply MUST SEE it, because someone I know (well, know through the bloggy world) has an influence with the movie. COOL!

So lots of tears and sentimental stuff this week.... Hmmmm. I'll have to think.

This comment is being written to you at 34,000 feet. Yes, I comment from airplanes. Ain't no thang.

I'm so excited to see Motherhood. Finally--a film about US. Except we're not Uma. Whatever.

p.s. See you...in TWO DAYS.

Congrats working on the movie....what an honor. You are the best of the best though, so no surprise there. I am excited to go see this myself.

I'm soooo doing this one. And little did I know about this whole thing (blog, the movie, the stardom of us little bloggers). Can't wait to watch the trailer.

Mama Kat, as one of the male bloggers who dare inhabit the blogging domain (which seems to be female dominated in sheer numbers), I have no idea what it is like to be a mother. I do have some insight into what it is like to be a father and a husband (ex if you would). So my contribution this week is not to my mom or any mom directly, but to all the moms out there, present and future, in an indirect way. I hope you all like it, as I do. I think I hit the nail right on the head this time and unfortunately feel every bit of the poem throughout the whole of me. My apologies to Marla and to all the wives and mothers out there who have had to endure unfaithful men.

Good topics! Did you see that they picked Jake to be the new bachelor? I can't blame them, he's basically gorgeous. Maybe a little boring, but gorgeous.

Fabulous ideas! I already interviewed my mom. :o) Can't WAIT to see that movie.

Oh... it makes me sad to see so many comments from women who don't have good relationships with their mothers. :( Of course, being the opportunistic parent of only BOYS, I think my window of opportunity for getting an awesome daughter-in-law just opened a bit wider. :))

p.s. I love my mom!

Jennifer said...

I'm passing on this one. Not much of a fan of my mom since I've been an adult. Maybe I'll do the one next week.

kisatrtle said...

That movie looks great. I think I'll get a group together for a mom's night out when that one comes out.

Here's hoping I can interview my mom...if she is home...

OH, I can not wait to see this movie...it looks GREAT!!! And, I'm so excited to be including my MUM in my little blog world. She'll enjoy this :) Now off to "quiz" her ;)

I am excited about seeing this movie, too. I like the prompts this week. Maybe I can squeeze an entry in this week. But, it is more likely that I will not. I try every week and every week I come up short of time and inspiration! Maybe next week I can write about how being a mom has kept me from blogging and sucked out all my brains and my free time!

Court said...

Too cool, I can't wait to see it, thanks for the info!

Love it! Love the movie! Love the prompts! Love it all!

Hmm... the movie looks good and I'm keeping an open mind.

I am a bit concerned... when Anthony Edwards' character asks Uma's character about "living a life of passion"...

I think that is the one thing that gets most moms into trouble. And, by "into trouble", I mean that we start to doubt ourselves and think that we aren't important unless we are doing something HUGE and affecting the kind of change that is only possible if you are Oprah.

And, we are. With our children. We are affecting them, and changing them, and shaping them, and being a role model to them.

But to the world, this seems so unimportant. Being passionate about being a GOOD parent to our kids (which is a different definition for every family) has somehow lost its importance.

Okey dokey. Hopping off the soapbox now.

Wow... I hadn't heard of this movie yet, thanks for sharing it! And how cool that you got to be involved! :)

I'm still a writing assignment virgin - not sure if I want to bite off this mammoth topic. Gonna sleep on it.

I am in the throws of reading Goethe's "Faust" for the 3rd time in my life (not by my choosing...), so I don't know that I can make myself write about my mother tonight. But I had to say how fun watching that trailer was. I lost myself somewhere along the way and found it again through writing too---so smart movie man for thinking to make a movie about it :) and smart to get Mama Kat on board too!

All the best to you!
