Disney On Ice

We went to Disney On Ice Friday night and it was SO fun!! In my professional opinion it's probably best for kids age 3 and up...but I might be tempted to take Kainoa in the future.

The lights, the characters, the seats...everything was great. I took a quick snippit of video, but it doesn't do it justice...you do get to see me singing Hakuna Matata though, or however it's spelled.

The night was ever so much lovelier because one of my favorite ex assistants came along for the ride. She's beautiful. And I love her. I basically told her I would marry her even though I'm 11 years older than her....because Pat is eleven years older than me so I know it could work. Only it turns out I'm married with kids...and I'm not a lesbian. But one for four is not so bad.

Get ready to be flooded with pictures.

Oh and the best part of the whole night was when I was all, "excuse me! How much is that shaved ice that comes in those adorable tinkerbell mugs??" (thinking I could buy one each for Maile and Laina and their two friends). The answer?? Ohhhh a mere TWELVE dollars for shaved ice. TWELVE dollars for colorful ice and...wait for it...

FOURTEEN if you wanted it WITH a spoon!!

I just stared. No response. Just staring.

Cotton candy was 12.

Fancy swinging lights were 20.

Programs were 15.

I mean really the prices were crazy. Thank God I packed capri suns and goody bags for the kids. Otherwise I'm pretty sure we'd be sleeping in cardboard boxes tonight.

I can't wait till by boy grows up and I can take him to this kind of thing. I had heard that everything is expensive there before but it might be good as a treat? =D
Gorgeous photos!!
have a great day! xoxo

Wow, it looks amazing. You've just sold me on going to Disney on Ice. But first I have to save up for the treats! How smart (cheap) were you to pack Capri Suns and favor bags?! I'm surprised you didn't get frisked on the way in like they do at the zoo.

Oh, and I'm just kidding on the cheap part. I hear you! I'm just jealous I never have thought of such a great thing.

Two bucks for a SPOON?!?!

I remember being mortified when my parents would pack snacks for movies and events like that. So embarrassing. But I SO do it now. Oh, the circle of life.

Oh boy, I am so passed that Disney on Ice stage it's not even funny. But, I can see why you'd enjoy it with the little ones. And boy are they gorgeous, just like their mama!

amazing pictures. i hope the ice show comes to my town. i think lil' D would be totally confused seeing cars skidding around on ice. i will bring goodies, too. took the kid to the circus and paid 12 bucks for cotton candy in a wizard's hat. never again. i'm too cheap. take care.

We are going in a couple of weeks, we have gone to Every show in the Denver area for the last 4 years. My boys sit sit and enjoy it from age 1 up. We have learned to buy cheaper tickets and sit up higher. 1. Easier to see 2. More room for boys to roam in our aisle. We also have learned that the show is only a couple hours, we bring some fruit snacks or suckers and chocolate for daddy...then just buy a popcorn and big soda to share. The toys we have purchased always break soon after because they are made so cheaply. My boys know that we can go to Target afterwards and pick out a toy instead.

Ooh, that looked fun! My hubby just okayed us to go to DisneyWorld for my little girl's first birthday so I'm in a Disney trance these days :)

It's the Disney thing - just like in the parks, you're a captive audience, they can charge whatever they please for their stuff.

Back in the dark ages, when I took my kids to stuff like that, they'd get a toy afterwards (and my big purse was filled with provisions).

Great pics! I'm surprised they didn't have someone take the camera away - don't they always say "no flash photography and no video"?

What a fun evening with the fam.

Okay - you don't know who Little Debbie is? That's why you're so skinny with great skin. bwaaahaa
Little Debbie is a food manufacturer (like General Mills) but they make sweets - twinkies, oatmeal cookies, honey buns {{my favorite!}}, swiss rolls {{my boys favorite}}, donuts, etc.

Every day is a little sweeter with a little debbie. :) True Dat!

I want to try this with my girls soon, too, so it was nice to get the insider tips (i.e. BYOB! lol). love the pics!

One of my earliest and most cherished memories was my mom and dad taking me to see the Smurf's Ice Capades. I was 3 or 4 and I "met" Papa Smurf while we were taking a restroom break. I was STARSTRUCK (and wondering why he was 9 feet tall!)

And, they should have been ashamed to ask that much for their souvenir junk and snacks. Thieves.

We took the kids last year and they had a blast! It was so worth the money (and like you, we didn't get caught up in those extras that cost way more than even the tickets did!) that we bought them tickets again this year~

Okay you expect things to be expensive at something like that, but that is just beyond insane!

Roxane said...

I wanna go that looks like so much fun! But when I do go I will pack my own sandwich and maybe a 40? No $12 shaved ice for this girl!

Gina said...

Love the pics. But those prices...REALLY? Did you see many people walking around with shaved ice...and if so, were they eating them with their fingers?

Anne said...

I remember going to see Disney on Ice about 20 years ago, and man was it different then! Micky and Minnie were the main characters, and Peg-leg Pete was the bad guy. Okay, I'm dating myself... my point was that your kids will have fond memories of this for a long time. :)

That looks like a lot of fun and the pictures show just that- but wow, the prices?!?! Crazy ridiculous!!

Last year, I took Hayden to Disney on Ice and he LOVED it. It is a great show. I can't wait to be able to take Jake, Claire and Quinn but I am going to have to win the lottery first.

Those treats were insane! Way to go for thinking ahead!

What kind of treats and souvenirs bastards decided on those prices? That's absolutely insane! But, it looks like you guys had an awesome time. I liked hearing that you thought it was good because I'd always wondered about those kinds of things and if they were worth the money. Sounds like the actual show was definitely worth it, but I'm making a mental note to refer to in 4 years that we will be packing our own snacks. Great pictures!

I've never been to Disny On Ice, but it looks like so much fun!

How insane are those prices!? I took my daughter to a Jonas Brothers concert & I thought that was bad. $5 for a bottled soda doesn't sound so bad now! The $2 more for the spoon is what gets me, though. It looks like you guys had an awesome time! And I like the packing of the Capri Suns and snacks. I would do the same. I'll do that with candy for the movies and just buy some popcorn and sodas.

Wow, I've never been one to really even think of going to a show on ice .... and those pics make it look pretty amazing! Like Disneyland but you don't have to move.

I bet your kiddos LOVED it. Even without the 14$ shaved ice and spoon. (CRAZY!)

Hope you had a great weekend!

Lourie said...

With the economy the way it is, you would think they would sell it for far cheaper and make a killing. was anybody buying?

The pictures are great. I love the cars!!! how cool is that!?

Beth E. said...

Those are outrageous prices...I can't quite get over them. Sheesh...

You got some great pictures...I'm glad everyone had a great time!

I love it that you randomly turn the camera around and sing along. Seriously, I want to marry you. Even though we're not 11 years apart.

(And it really does look like so much fun...I wonder if Miles would actually SIT STILL for it...)

Disney on Ice is great! We just got back from an entire weekend at Disney!

smiles4u said...

My little people would love somethng like this because it does look and sound like fun. The prices? Not so much. It does seem like anytime you go to something like this or a sporting event or concert the food and drinks or so flippin expensive. It's crazy! But, I think when you don't go to things like this very often and are smart enough to come prepared it can be a special treat.

Popping over from SITS and Twitter :)

I love the Disney on Ice shows. We went 2 years ago and my daughter had so much fun. But I agree it breaks the bank when you go.

great pics!

What is UP with the prices? We went to Disneyland this past weekend...$12 for a balloon....A BALLOON!!! Are you kidding me???

Anything Disney is a HUGE hit in our house and the girls looks like they had a great time!

You went to a different one from us. Did people fall? Or, as #2 described it, roll across the floor? There was this one guy, the Frog Prince I think, who just kept biting it over and over and over! But, it was fun anyway and that little thing only distracted me momentarily. It was the verbal fight that broke out next to me that really interrupted my show. Glad you had fun!

Texan Mama @ Who Put Me In Charge said...

OMG those prices are insane.

Looks like you had a great time. If it had been ME taking my kids, I would have worn out the phrase, "Better enjoy it because this is the last time we'll be doing this for a LONG time. Till we win the lottery, I guess."

I suck as a mom like that.

The Mommy-Files said...

That looks like it was a great show! It is ridiculous how expensive food and novelty items can be at shows like that. The funny thing is that I knew all of the words to the songs you were singing to also! I love Disney!

Lori said...

Those prices are of the devil and Disney should be ashamed.

hotpants™ said...

You had to pay extra for the spoon? Walt Disney is rolling over in his grave. Ok, he's not. But still!

HeartsMakeFamilies said...

Great pictures. I took Faith to it about 2 years ago. We had an absolute blast as well. I'm glad that you did.

Pollyanna said...

Good grief, those prices ARE crazy. And then were you looking around at the kids who WERE clutching the princess cup, cotton candy, and swingy lights and wonder what in the heck their Dad does for a living??? That's the part that always kills me. The Disney people must sell stuff at those prices, or well, what would be the point?

I wish I had girls. That Disney on Ice does look REALLY fun!!!!

Kristin said...

The hubs wouldn't let me take our little dude because it wasn't manly enough. Geesh.

My Two Army Brats said...

We went last year and yours looked way cooler than ours!

We did pay $10 for cups of lemonade that said "handwash only" in huge red stickers that I ignored, put in the dishwasher and thus ruined. Go me!

I love that you turned the camera on yourself that's awesome!
