Tiny Tidbits: Blog Love and Ugly Sweaters

December 21, 2009 · 46 comments

-My goal is to share some of my favorite reads from the past week with you all. On Mondays check out the page in the “blog talk” tab above that reads “blog love”…you’ll see some good stuff in there with a variety of topics!

-I mentioned briefly before that we took the plunge and decided to keep Victor E. Really the dog is flawless. You guys knew I didn’t stand a chance didn’t you? I love him. He’s my new best friend. Part cocker spaniel…part something else…I don’t know what. His hair is kind of wavy and it would really work perfect if he could be my own attention craving poodle, so I’m going to say he’s a poodle mix.

Victor E.

I told Ginger the rescue lady that we wanted to keep him and she went on and on about what a “gweat twainer” I must be with these dogs. She said foster parents are complaining about their pups and that one in particular was causing a raucous in her foster home…biting, peeing, barking, you name it.

Turns out GRETA is the one causing problems and she’s the EXACT dog I asked for when I realized Mickey was too ugly to bring home with us. Amen that she was already taken! Oh and as it turns out Ginger is the one who names all the dogs. One of the volunteers said she constantly repeats names…she pointed to one dog and said, “that’s the fourth Peanut Butter we’ve had come through the program”. All of the chihuahuas are named things like Rico and Diego and Juan.Victor, as it turns out, was named after that worker’s ex-boyfriend. Looks like Ginger has a bit of a sense of humor. The girls kept adding the Eee onto his name and it stuck.

Victor E.

-Two kids in the daycare are leaving me at the beginning of the year. I’m so sad. I hate losing good kids. The oldest will be in Kindergarten next year and needs a more school like environment and the youngest needs more intensive speech therapy than I am able to offer. I realize it’s for the best for the kids, but I’ve been taking care of them since the five year old was just one and I’m sad. If you need daycare call me mmkay?

-The best way to cure sadness is to swing by an “Ugly Sweater Christmas Party” that you weren’t invited to and take pictures of your friend in the ugliest outfit you’ve ever seen her in. Check and check.

-I’m still figuring out WordPress…one of the things I love about it is the ease of replying in the comment section. At first I did a lot of this, I think it’s a great way to respond to comments and even get a kind of forum going on whatever the topic might be. My question is…do people even go back and read my replies or is it a waste of time? What do you think? Would you prefer me to reply back via email or in the comments?

I love that your friend could pull off the fugly sweater with her dazzling smile.
Oh I wish you were out this way. I need one more day a week of daycare, son’s daycare is jam packed…teachers are so lovely, no one is moving on from there!

I knew you would love that little doggie! See, God was watching out for you apparently when you missed that other dog you thought you wanted.

I voted for cookies for commenters, but seriously, response by email is probably better; however, I do stop back to look at Kathy’s replies to comments at the Junk Drawer because she’s funny and I know she responds in her comments. I do both, or try to when possible.

My good friend has a Boxer that he named “Steve.” He used to have a labrador retriever named “Jack.” For some reason, it strikes me as funny when a dog has a human name. Not sure why.

lol… no, you don’t really have to post me cookies! But I love the idea. To be honest, email would be best, but I don’t think every comment requires a reply, and I don’t go back on to posts again, so replies left to my reply never reach me… so in my view, a bit of a waste of time – rather spend that time reading other people’s blogs, and commenting on theirs!

Reply

Luschka December 21, 2009 at 4:23 am

but that’s just my view! Might be why I don’t have as many readers as you! :)

Can I ask a question? How tall are you? I’ve always been short (5’2) and have kind of a fascination with tall women… but not in a weird way. I don’t follow them around or anything.

Via email. I never go back to look for a reply although I know some people do. And, it’s a great way to get them to come back more than once a day. Love the snazzy quiz, too.

Grrr. That’s why I LOVED Disqus. When I replied to the commenter, they got an email from me AND it appeared in my comment list. My reply feature in CommentLuv is mysteriously absent. Even my tech guy can’t figure it out. I think CommentLuv is going to be going Bye-Bye on my blog soon.

I noticed that now that you’ve changed to Wordpress it doesn’t show that you have new posts and my link still goes to your old site?

I far prefer to get replies via e-mail. I know in Blogger we could click “get emails with replies” before we clicked Submit Comment, but even then I would forget (or get 9000 emails with everyone’s comment – lame). I’d rather be responded to directly…just my opinion.

The ugly sweater party looks like a lot of fun!!!

Jennifer did that picture of me with my tiny friend clue you in? :) She makes me look like a mammoth.

And I am.

5’11″…feel free to be fascinated by me, I feel the same way with people who are 5’2″. I have an uncontrollable desire to pick you girls up when I hug you.

Jack December 21, 2009 at 7:55 am

Don’t care about the sweaters, could be because I don’t own any. But a good cookie always gets my attention. The dogs look like fun, can’t let my daughter see the pix or she’ll spend the rest of the day asking for one.

My ugly sweater is nonexistent. Actually Alecia called me to come to the party at like 10pm when I was getting home from my niece’s birthday bash. I told her I didn’t have a sweater and couldn’t go, but she wouldn’t here it. :)

Joy December 21, 2009 at 8:00 am

we got invited to a sweater party but didn’t get to go:( although at dinner last night we did manage to pick out 3 that we could have worn!

Reply

ps how do I get my pretty picture on my comments?

I’m wondering too…where is your ugly Christmas sweater?

I much prefer you reply to comments through email- I very rarely go back and look at a post that I previously commented on.

The saddest thing about Superintendent Man cancelling school for this week is that my journalistas were going to have an “Ugly Sweater” party during lunch tomorrow. Ah, well, the best-laid plans, huh? I’m going to send them an e-mail, encouraging to buy their ugly sweaters on sale next week. We’ll have the party in January…

I like reading your comments (I often come back later in the day to read comments and your replies), so when you reply in the comments it adds to my reading pleasure. But if you decide to email, that’s okay, too. And cookies would be wonderful!

Mama Kat December 21, 2009 at 8:33 am

Maybe I’ll just write down the names of the two people who actually read my replies in the comment section and direct all of my messages to you two. :) You’re so sweet to come back for more! And that’s why I love you.

So glad Victor E is working out so well.

I definitely voted for the email, as I often don’t get back to the same blog post to see if you responded.. I am too busy reading your next post and every other blog that I read.

What is up with the ‘other’ function on the poll? What is the other option? Does other mean that we will personally call someone to reply to there comment? I just wonder.

Oh and where can I get a Christmas sweater like that. I have been looking all over and can’t find one that great. ;)

Victor E. is precious and belongs right where he is. I’m so glad you were able to keep him!

I think that sweater might be just a teensy bit better if she could lose that hat!

A cockapoo! Aw… my boyfriend’s mother is getting a cockapoo for Christmas, and we’re hoping the new puppy gets along and becomes best friends with our little lhasa! We might even get to foster her for a few days before Christmas!

I so love that cookie idea….especially since I’m not supposed to have any right now! Can you disguise them in like a plain brown paper bag wrapping so that the hubs won’t take them? haha

And awww I so love that little pupper! What a great addition to the family!
