Dear Alicia:

I have just posted an EXTREMELY BASIC newbie question re payment (ref WordPress Canada). Let's monitor the responses we see here, since we both seem to be "only getting our toes wet".

As with yourself, I don't like the intellectual property ownership/assignment issue either and would not want to put time in anything on those terms.

While Canadian law differs somewhat to U.S. law on ownership, that would not really make anything better.

While, in Canada, by legal default the copyright accrues to the creator, that does not stop any other from demanding assignment of the revenue as a condition of collaboration, so the rest is a moot point - no better than the U.S. scene in practice.

Cheers,

Bruce M.

EXTREMELY BASIC newbie question:

Does anyone have a straightforward list of all the means of payment for services from Wordpress? When I tried to find this out from the wordpress.ca site I got dragged through the shopping cart mill and never got an up-front direct answer.

This alone gives me cold feet. If a seller of anything does this up-front, I expect it will only get worse as things go on, and leave the site:-(

More specifically do they handle Interac online or debit?

First comment EVER on your blog. Go me! Okay, maybe not. *ahem*

I made the switch from Blogger to WordPress this year when I determined my wannabe foodie schtick just wasn't working. I wanted something less confining, something that would help me grow. Through the help of a friend I paid for a year's worth of hosting and bought the domain I am on now. Couldn't be happier.

While my traffic still sucks (my fault) and I haven't grown much more than what I had on the previous blog, I love the functionality a hell of a lot more. I can read my stats ON my dashboard without ever having to leave my site. Love that! Okay, I do use Google Analytics for a more in-depth report but stats on the dashboard definitely rule.

I used to be hardcore pro-Blogger. Now I [jokingly] sneer at Blogger blogs and wonder WTF I was thinking. Ahh. Crap. Now I'm becoming a blog snob. Uh...moving on now.

Still on the fence when it comes to making the big switch. My blog is definitely NOT big enough for me to want to switch to WordPress, BUT.... the whole thing about me not owning the content and Blogger being able to remove the blog FREAKS ME OUT. Just a little bit.

We'll see what this year brings.

I am just now reading this. I officially switched over on Saturday, and I am in love!! Everything you said is exactly how I felt. I had someone do it for me & I didn't have to sell a child to pay for it... I wonder why there are such bad rumors about the switch. Jealousy perhaps? Hmmmmm....

I know! That's the one thing people don't really talk about. I guess it's not THAT expensive...but still...it's an expense!
