Oh No!!! That’s funny though! I don’t think I ever did play in tar…sap mostly.
I'm a full-time mummy says
Whoaaa….tar?! Seriously?! I couldn’t even stand the smell of it…
Natalie says
If we would’ve found some to play in, we probably would’ve…
Casey @ If The Crown Fits says
Oh my goodness, your post cracked me up!
June Freaking Cleaver says
Wonder what your mom is gonna say about her frowny face.
And what an angry-looking sun!
And the man you were all meeting? Was it your future stepdad?
Mama Kat says
Yes! It was his first time meeting us. My mom was so embarrassed. He was wearing a nice suit and everything. Poor guy. If only he’d known a red flag when he saw one.
Donda says
HAHAHAHA! Your mother took it very well! I too had an encounter with tar. When I was about 14 I dug some off the freshly paved street with a stick and thew it on the pervy icecream man’s truck. He chased me on foot for about 3 city blocks until I lost him!
Holly says
I LOVE your cartoon!! Your poor mother! LOL!!
I think of the things my hubby did as a kid and thank the stars my boys don’t pull them! HAH! ;D
CoffeeJitters (Judy Haley) says
I am completely in awe of your cartooning skills.
Heather @ Welch Happenings says
That was soo cute and inventive. That was pretty cool that all you got was grounded.
Nickie@Typecast says
Hello :) I’m going to join in this week I think. I always join in over at Sleep Is For The Weak and keep meaning to bob over here. Lovely to see so many “familiars” in the list already.
Mama Kat says
Well I’m glad you’re playing along…way to mix things up a bit. :) I’ll have to check out the Sleep is for the Weak one…never heard of it.
Stef says
That was some great art work there. Gotta love that black tar.
Paula says
Sounds exactly like something my little cherubs would do! I’m a newbie – Nickie72 signposted me your way after reading the post that I’ve since linked up – something in the air maybe?!
Mama Kat says
I’m glad you’re playing along this week!
Karen, author of "My Funny Dad, Harry" says
Tar jumping? Seriously? You weren’t a very smart child, were you? Love your cartoons–great job! This cracked me up!
Artie says
We deentiifly need more smart people like you around.
Jen says
It had to be tar didn’t it. Mud just wouldn’t have been good enough. ;)
Living in Dar says
This is hilarious!
HisBell says
Dude… your artisticness has me in awe! lol Love the illustrations!
Can’t say I ever played in tar… Though now that I think about it, I do recall popping the tar bubbles! But they weren’t big enough for my shoes to get ruined.
Los says
Who couldn’t resist hot tar in the summer-time? Especially with new shoes!
Mama Kat says
It was a recipe for disaster I tell’ya.
Kaelin says
My first time here – love your blog!
Angel says
Lmbo tar?? Ya’ll played in tar?? Umm yeah ok, the novelty of that is lost on me.. and the threat of death from my momma would have kept me far away
Melissa says
Hilarious!! My husband has a similar story from when he was little…me…I wan’t into tar!!
Heather says
Tar jumping – that was cute :) But, icky! LOL! Happy Thursday!
Amanda says
The last picture was my favorite!!!!
Dumb Mom says
What were you guys thinking? I can’t imagine wanting to jump in tar ever because it would totally mess up my shoes. Or get me dirty. Or make me smell. All things I’m categorically opposed to. Yes, I am special and I know you like it:)
Bizzymissliz says
I loved this post! You are so creative with the characters! We never had tar anywhere, but we did have mud puddles. If my brothers jumped in, so would I!
Great story!
erica says
I can totally see you with your neighborhood friends playing in tar… and I can kind of understand why it might seem fun to a kid… but I have no idea why.
Great story!
Mama Kat says
Because it was so sticky and gooey…we had no idea it was going to ruin our clothes!
Raven says
I started my morning off with a smile. lol Great post.
Gina says
What is it that is so inviting about tar? I’ve ruined many clothes because of tar.
C.Mom says
I love the pics–how incredibly creative! And tar? That is too funny.
Allison @ Alli n Son says
I love you drawings. So silly.
Is it true that gas gets out tar? I had no idea.
Mama Kat says
Yep! Just another exciting trick we learned that day from our future step dad. :) He was full of’em.
Joanna says
Yikes! I’ve cleaned enough roofing tar out of jeans to know that is not fun stuff. I would rather buy new shoes than try to get that out!
liz says
My parents wouldn’t have been happy but Craig’s parents would have had aneurysms! Seriously, they would have cut off his feet instead of trying to remove the tar.
Stephanie S says
Thank you Thank you Thank you, once again, for that wonderful Lou Holtz quote writing prompt! THE BEST! :D
Rachel B says
Lol! I love these drawings! So creative!
Annie @ astonesthrowfrominsanity says

Mama Kat says
I draw pictures and use photoshop and the internet for the rest. Lots of cutting and pasting going on. :) I’m glad you like it!
Funkidivagirl says
That is hilarious! Tar smell always reminds me of my grandma’s house in Alabama…..the streets got so hot that the tar melted.
Mama Kat says
I think that’s what happened in this case too! It was a really hot day and I think the road we were on had been re-paved…I wonder if they had to go back and re do it…
Teresha@ Marlie and Me says
Did you track tar everywhere too? LOL! love the drawings!
Mama Kat says
Yes! We made gooey sticky footprints all the way home. :)
Jennifer says
I’m trying not to remember all the crazy stuff I did as a kid because it makes me scared about what my kids are going to do to me.
Michelle @ Mommy Loves Stilettos says
Oh my goodness and that stuff smells SO BAD. My ex-bf worked in asphalt and he used to come home smelling AWFUL every day!!
Mama Kat says
Yes…it was not a good smell.
Kmama says
That WOULD be fun to play in! LOL
Cecelia Winesap says
Awesome post! I love the cartoons! :)
Melva says
How clever you are….cute post….!!! I too grew up with the streets melting to tar…..and used gasoline on occasion….:)
Melissa says
Did the gasoline work? Just out of curiousity, I have 3 boys and I can see something like this happening in the future.
Peaceful wishes,
Melissa

I thought I was ahead of the game by getting up early (6:30 am) to publish my writer’s workshop post and link up. But I’m the 81st link, so apparently I’m not as ahead of the game as I would have hoped. Congrats on the continued success of writer’s workshop! And loved your stick figure drawings. I would have grounded you too!

Hahaha! Nice. I stepped in tar at the La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles when I was little (a museum about how the dinosaurs died) and thought I was going to sink and die.
Liza says
Oh…and…this is my first meme! Lately I’ve been feeling like all I write about now is my newborn, but your prompts gave me something new! I had a blast! Thanks – you should totally be on Ellen.

It’s been a little while since I have felt like doing any of the prompts. I was excited to see one jump out at me! I was a little disappointed with the lack of feedback I got thought :-( I don’t think people are going to get good comment karma!

My post is really more matched to an older prompt – “When I Grow Up” but I wanted to share since I’m trying to follow your weekly prompts, even if I chose a different topic occasionally.
