Writer’s Workshop: Bathroom Concert

April 1, 2010 · 96 comments

Pick you favorite song and record your own personal bathroom concert series.

First I’d like to thank Ellen for her brilliant bathroom concert idea.

Next I’d like to thank Rudy the Labradoodle for allowing me to sing to his semi-cooperative self.

And lastly I’d like to thank Maile and Laina for interrupting me…business as usual.

Now it’s your turn!

Choose a prompt, post it on your blog, and come back and sign Mr. Linky. Be sure to sign up with the actual post URL and not just your basic blog URL (click on the title of your post for that URL). For good comment karma try to comment on the three blogs above your name!!

The Prompts:

1.) List of 10 things blogging has taught you.
2.) Pick you favorite song and record your own personal bathroom concert series.
3.) “Sometimes when it’s hard to see with the eyes I’ve been given, I strap on my camera and pray for new ones. I did that yesterday. It helped.”
4.) “let he who hath no sin cast the first stone…” Is there anything you have judged prematurely, only to find yourself walking in the same shoes later?
5.) List your top 10 “Spring Trends”.

Brave indeed to sing away. Although I seem to remember from another post that you can actually sing – which is a great help.

Can’t wait to watch your concert tomorrow, I mean later today (it’s late, I mean very early, and the hubs is sleeping next to me) I’m sure it will be FABULOUS!!!

In my post, I thought that Ellen and Jennifer’s concert was the best but I was wrong. Fabulous. I am pretty sure a Grammy is going to be coming your way soon.

Is it right that when I leave a link to your par-tay I typo… right there in the link? Yes. That’s my signature for link ups.

Also: Is it right that the kids have more of a knack for singing in the mic than you do?

Lastly: Is it right that the kids didn’t seem the least bit surprised by the fact that Mama was in the bathroom with the camera and karaoke machine?

Now that song is in me head. Gracias, lady!

Thank you Ellen. I think it’s important that the fake Ellen sites latch on to what I’m doing here. You can help catapult me to daytime television success.

Reply

That is my plan. You are welcome. :-)

Wondering how long (if ever?) it will be b4 you figure out who I am for reals.

Ahh! I have a sleeping boy in the room with me so I can’t watch the video now. I will be coming back for this one for sure.

Love the comment from Ellen. :)

That was so special! The only non-attention seeking poodle was Rudy, am I right?

I think you should call Ellen tell her to use her pull to get you on American Idol, almost everyone else on the show sucks this year! Maybe they’ll start a segment on bathroom singing!

Reply

Erin April 1, 2010 at 3:47 am

One of the funniest things I have seen in such a long time. Laughing so hard I woke up my sleeping son! Thanks for helping me start off my day.

I’m trying to convince the hubby to play guitar for my bathroom concert series. We will see…

This is my first Writer’s Workshop entry! Hoping to do this twice a month to get some writing practice and great ideas from others’ writing. LOVE the bathroom concert series idea – I’m not even brave enough to sing alone in my bathroom and post it online so good on you to those that did lol

Why try to make it as a singer? You can def make it as a director! This was so funny! I think my favourite part is “Rudy… Ruuuudy”. That and Mama singing with her girls… :-)

Reply

angie April 1, 2010 at 5:12 am

I can’t stop laughing.

I wonder if your kids will grow up thinking bathroom vlogs and karoake is normal? :)

Reply

Mama Kat April 1, 2010 at 12:18 pm

They certainly will.

And it is.

Don’t tell me you guys don’t karaoke in your bathroom every night? ;)

That was great! I love that Rudy the Dog has perfect comedic timing. So do the kids. I really enjoyed your video. It’s too bad that the real Ellen didn’t comment. She’ll take notice one of these days! :)

I know right! I’m just going to choose to believe that the Real Ellen has read all the letters and isn’t contacting me because she doesn’t want me to stop. :)

Reply

Tim April 1, 2010 at 5:23 am

That was OUTSTANDING! Loved every last interruption. I think that is what made it so special. The fact that all that you do especially with vlogs you keep it real. Kids are part of our lives and letting them be a part always is important. Loved this Kat!

Love and Prayers,

Tim

How can you NOT end up on Ellen?! Seriously….

It wa syour dramatic use of the eye sweep, the head bow and the soft dog caresses that sold me. When does your CD come out?

BTW, I challege you to do this with my bipolar wiener in your bathroom! (Bet a few people are scratching their heads right now!)

Ok you are FABULOUS! I read your blog all of the time, (but rarely comment- my bad!) But you crack me up daily and I am hoping and a praying that you get on Ellen because I think the two of you would be comical heaven to watch together. And you have star quality! Love watching your bathroom session, and you can really sing! Love it!

Reply

Mama Kat April 1, 2010 at 12:22 pm

You do realize that if I ever got on Ellen I would SO not be funny. I’d be a stuttering fool and everyone would be disappointed.

Or I’d be brilliant and they’d offer me my own show…one of the two.

Reply

Erin Im Gonna Kill Him April 1, 2010 at 9:48 am

I think Lisa Loeb went to my college…or maybe it was that lady who sang ‘what if God were one of us’.

Ellen would be lucky to have you instead of the people who burp the alphabet or pogo stick jump over flames.

Instead of wooing Ellen, you need to think of yourself as the George Clooney of bloggers, who needs Ellen to start campaigning for your attention!

Ellen wrote you? What? Did I miss something? Oh, and did you write a post about getting Rudy? I don’t remember that being a final decision at all. I’m so lost!!!

I LOVE the video. You are rockin’ the kasbah…or the bathroom. Either way.

Reply

Mama Kat April 1, 2010 at 12:23 pm

No a faux Ellen left a comment earlier…very sweet of her. Probably my Mom.

Rudy has not been introduced to the blog yet, but next week will be his shining debut. First I have to find my camera….

Reply

Eileen April 1, 2010 at 11:43 am

That is SO STINKING CUTE! I love it!!!!!!!

Now I want to know who Rudy is! Did I miss you getting a dog??

Reply

Jennifer April 1, 2010 at 11:50 am

Ok:

1) Holy cow – Ellen responded to you!! How cool is THAT!! You may get there yet!!

2) LOVED Rudy just casually walking past the camera.

3) Thank you for the laugh! I really needed it!

Reply

Nice job. I am very impressed that the dog sat there. Mine would have tackled me and left me a slobbered on mess.

Reply

Mama Kat April 1, 2010 at 12:14 pm

I think a video of you singing “stay” in the bathroom with a dog tackling you would be far more entertaining than any video I could make. DO IT!

Reply

Emma @ embracethechaos.ca April 1, 2010 at 12:32 pm

It’s just not fair that you can sing and write, and you seem to keep the bathroom pretty clean too. I don’t know if I should be jealous or ask you to be my new best friend — maybe both?

Reply

Anne April 1, 2010 at 1:44 pm

Did I miss you getting a Labradoodle? He’s SO CUTE!! Also, this is probably the single most amazing video I have ever watched online. You ROCK. Even though poor Rudy is going “okay, what gives? why are my humans so WEIRD?”. ;)

Reply

Amy April 1, 2010 at 1:49 pm

I absolutely loved that. I will one day need to get up the nerve to do my own bathroom concert. But, since my girls both tell me not to sing whenever I join in song with them, I am guessing it will be a long time before I do it and it will be posted on my blog – never. Sadly all of the money my folks spent on voice lessons did me no good at all.

You are wonderfully refreshing.

And I’m in love with the dread lock girl on the show…is it Christina? She’s my favorite!
