Writer’s Workshop: 30 Things I Vow

June 9, 2010 · 144 comments

30 things you vow to do this summer.

  1. Help Pat pack bags for the kids in preparation for their weekend away…from me.
  2. Let Pat cook dinner for the family.
  3. Wave goodbye when Pat leaves to buy me a blizzard at Dairy Queen while watching movies on a Friday night.
  4. Pack popcorn for Pat and the kids as they get ready to go to a drive in movie together.
  5. Watch Pat mow the lawn.
  6. Drink lemonade that Pat made for me.
  7. Spend Pat’s money at the mall.
  8. Thank Pat for encouraging me to spend as much time as possible on the computer.
  9. Compliment Pat on a delicious cake that he made just for me.
  10. Act surprised when Pat presents me with diamonds on my half birthday.
  11. Agree to accompany Pat on a mini weekend vacation sans kids.
  12. Hand Pat a handkerchief to wipe his brow after building me a cabana in the backyard.
  13. Watch Pat dance and sing to the tune of “She’s Like The Wind” after dedicating the song to me.
  14. Act surprised when Pat invites my closest friends over for drinks and girl talk.
  15. Accept Pat’s apology when he says sorry for not telling me I’m pretty often enough.
  16. Take a picture of Pat washing our cars.
  17. Write a blog post about how much Pat loves me.
  18. Drink a margarita while thinking of Pat.
  19. Let Pat drive me to the mall.
  20. Taste the soup that Pat prepares me from scratch.
  21. Let Pat wipe my chin after I spit his disgusting soup across the room.
  22. Watch Glee while Pat paints my nails.
  23. Read US Weekly while Pat potty trains Kainoa.
  24. Listen to how Pat feels unworthy of my love.
  25. High five Pat when he brings home the complete dvd series of The Real Housewives of Orange County.
  26. Eat pizza while Pat cleans dirty bathrooms.
  27. Nod in agreement with Pat when he compares me to the likes of Angelina Jolie and Catherine Zeta Jones.
  28. Read a newspaper while sipping the coffee Pat made me…and by “newspaper” I mean “my own blog”.
  29. Serenade Pat while he cleans out the garage.
  30. Slip into a bath Pat drew for me with and finish a favorite book.

Now it’s your turn!

Choose a prompt, post it on your blog, and come back and sign Mr. Linky. Be sure to sign up with the actual post URL and not just your basic blog URL (click on the title of your post for that URL). For good comment karma try to comment on the three blogs above your name!!

The Prompts:

1.) Soundtrack of your life: Pick 10 songs that you would have on a soundtrack for your life, pick a line from each that you most identify with and write a short statement of why this song made it.
2.) Before I was a mom…
3.) What would it take?  Write an imaginary scene where someone you are still angry with finally deserves to be forgiven.
4.) 30 things you vow to do this summer.
5.) The ultimate honey-do list. If your spouse agreed to do any ten things you asked, what would they be?

Wait is that your summer list or your honey do list? HAHA

Sooo does all that mean you’ll be at Bloggy Boot Camp in SF??? =)

Reply

Jen C. June 9, 2010 at 10:08 pm

Haha, love your Pat-filled summer list :) It does sound more like Pat’s to-do list! What a great hubby you’ve got there! Don’t strain yourself too much this summer!

Rachel @ Mommy Needs a Vacation June 9, 2010 at 10:09 pm

You crack me up! I think I need to show Josh your list and tell him that I have planned summer all out. He will be so excited that I have everything figured out! No worrying about plans. And I 2nd Erin’s comment- SF Bloggy Boot Camp??? Puuurrdy please?

Reply

No SF boot camp for me…why do you guys just wait and come to Seattle. :)

Reply

Ooooohhh, good call on combining the two prompts! However, if I clean out my garage, will you come serenade me?

Reply

Impressive. I hope that Pat sees things the same way. :-)

My husband has a 31st entry for you: Beg Pat to come back after he reads this list.

Men, they’re so sensitive!

Reply

Mama Kat June 10, 2010 at 6:21 am

I told Pat about my list and he said some similar things about serving me with divorce papers and taking full custody of the kids.

I don’t think he was joking.
;)

Reply

Dominique June 9, 2010 at 10:29 pm

That’s a really long list for Pat to accomplish :P

Reply

After reading your list I totally need to redo mine. I was in the wrong mindset, but thankfully you have put me on the right track again!

What a fun prompt! I didn’t know the rules beforehand so I jumped the gun and posted yesterday. Now I know for next time.

Before I was a mom I was really jonesin’ for a hysterectomy; I was sure I’d never want to be a mom. Karma is at work here.

Well I am totally digging the list, it also sounds like an ultimate honey do list. I hope all your summer dreams come true.

Reply

Sarah M. June 10, 2010 at 2:22 am

This is stellar. I am sure that Pat will get right on those things. I especially am subscribing to the one where you eat pizza while he potty trains your son. I am all about blogging while my husband changes poopy diapers and puts the kids to bed. Last night, he finally revolted and made ME do all those things. But I cried. He felt guilty. And all is right with the world again.

Reply

Katina June 10, 2010 at 2:29 am

Love all the stuff you are going to watch Pat do! Especially when you said drink a margarita while thinking of Pat!!!! My kind of girl!

Reply

Pat is so very lucky to have you. I hope he knows that. ‘Cause if there were no Pat and no Dumb Dad and I liked girls and you did too we’d probably be married by now. Pat has so much to be happy for.

Mama Kat June 10, 2010 at 6:24 am

Amazing how fate stepped in the way it did and made our lives like this instead of matching us together the way it could have (should have?) been.

But for now it’s back to reality, potty training and everything else!

Reply

Funkidivagirl June 10, 2010 at 3:18 am

Um, that sounds like the Ultimate Honey-Do List to me with a little summer thrown in. And a good one too.

Reply

Amanda June 10, 2010 at 3:21 am

I especially love the Reading US Weekly while Pat potty trains one of your children….classic!!!

Reply

Tiffany June 10, 2010 at 3:22 am

Love your list! Looks like your list is a honey do/ summer 30! Love it! I liked both so much I did both too, but separately. Maybe Pat will do a few for you. I like painting your nails. I thought about my hubby doing that.

Reply

Joy June 10, 2010 at 3:28 am

My husband could learn a thing or two from Pat! It sounds like Pat has a lot to live up to this summer.

Reply

Rebecca June 10, 2010 at 3:32 am

Wow! Can I live in your world for a little while?? How in the world did you think of “She’s Like The Wind?” Patrick Swayze…RIP!

Reply

Mama Kat June 10, 2010 at 6:26 am

Because when Pat and I first started dating I secretly wanted him to dedicate that song to me. Because I’m humble like that. When years later I confessed my desire for him to dedicate it to me he. died. laughing. So much for Mr. Romantic.

Reply

Rebekah @ mom-in-a-million June 10, 2010 at 3:37 am

Excellent plan! I am in full support of all of those vows!

Reply

Jenners June 10, 2010 at 3:41 am

Genius! Pure genius! I think I shall coy this and remove “Pat” and replace it with “Mr. Jenners.” Though then he’ll wonder why he is potty training some kid named Kainoa.

Reply

Mama Kat June 10, 2010 at 6:27 am

I fully support the idea of Mr. Jenners potty training my son. Kainioa won’t think that’s strange at all.

Reply

Jennifer June 10, 2010 at 3:42 am

Wow, Pat is totally awesome. Could you get him to call David and make some suggestions?

Reply

B June 10, 2010 at 3:44 am

Love it! I’d like to add a few of those to my summer list…only I’ll swap out my husband’s name for Pat.

Reply

Too funny! I especially support the idea of diamonds for your half birthday… I may have to try that one myself!

Reply

Dawna June 10, 2010 at 4:05 am

I am glad that we read the same “newspaper” yet I was surprised that Pat did not hand-dip you any chocolates to go along with a long massage that he will provide willingly. Maybe there needs to be 31 items on your list. :) he he he.

oops “my” list. I hate typos, and they haunt me…

Reply

I started a real list and got to about number 3 before giving up. Making Pat a list was such a better use of my time.

Reply

Amy June 10, 2010 at 5:19 am

Oh I love this list. I started to do this prompt and decided I just wasn’t up for committing to 30 things. I prefer your take on it way more than mine. Although if I were to switch Pat to Scott, I don’t think he’d enjoy it as much as I enjoyed reading yours.

PS – thanks for stopping by last week :)

Either way, hysterical!
