A list of things you no longer have in common with your single/childless friends…and why you love them anyways.
This post was originally inspired when I about died laughing reading one of Chelsea Handler’s books where she said, “Don’t married people know that the last thing a single person wants to do on a Friday night is play a nutty game of Yahtzee? I’d rather take a bubble bath with my father.”
And the answer to that question is no. No we didn’t know that, but thank you for pointing it out Chelsea. Did it ever occur to you that maybe Yahtzee is all we have left? Our husbands don’t want us drinking all night because it means they have to watch the children and the children don’t want us leaving because OHMYGOD who would cook their freaking grilled cheese sandwiches?
And yes, my children do eat grilled cheese sandwiches at 2am because that’s the kind of mom I am dammit.
Yahtzee is our only option.
This is as good as it gets for us and I’ll tell you what…there are a number of things you single gals do that aren’t exactly OUR cup of tea either…for example…I too, would rather take a bubble bath with your father than:
- Watch re-runs of Snapped while stuffing my face with chocolate and wondering why men aren’t interested in me.
- Listen to my single friends talk about how waking up for work at 8am is exhausting.
- Empathize with a friend who complains that her Audi is in the shops while I man handle a God forsaken MINI VAN!
- Go to a club dressed like a street walker in an attempt to find true love.
Ummmmmm….you know what this is just stupid. Because let’s be honest, I would totally dress like a street walker and head to the clubs for a night. With or without my single friends.
I guess what I’m trying to say with all this is that my single friends have got it made, Yahtzee is the married couple’s version of clubbing, and I really want to take a bubble bath with Chelsea Handler’s dad.
But don’t get me wrong…I may have said goodbye to the Audi and the responsibility-less life of a single person when I decided to get married and have babies…but they’re worth it.
