I was going to write about a post I regret publishing, but I couldn’t decide between the insensitive recount of the armless man I saw fall over in the middle of the road, the judgmental piece I wrote about certain women who scare me, or the hilarious post I wrote about a horse I loved that fell off a cliff and died that left readers feeling confused and sad, and not at all like laughing.
My indeciveness and throbbing head cold told me to stop thinking so hard about my regretful post and to choose the easier “where are they now” prompt instead, but since all our favorite stars have been covered by E! True Hollywood Story, I decided it would be fun to cover our favorite tv dogs.
I looked up the Taco Time dog and the Bud Light dog, Spuds Mackenzie…I looked up the Homeward Bound crew and Air Bud and Tiger from The Brady Bunch…
Sounds interesting right?
Well it’s not because they’re all dead.
Homeward Bound was actually filmed with eight dogs and eight cats and I’ll never look at Sassy the same again. I’m not entirely positive they’re all dead, but it’s probable.
Gidget the Mexican chihuahua had a stroke and was euthanized.
Air Bud died of cancer.
Tiger was hit by a car and killed while taping an episode called “Katchoo”, where we learn that Jan is in fact allergic to the little fella.
And Spuds Mackenzie, who’s real name was Honey Tree Evil Eye died of kidney failure.
It occurred to me that even if the dogs were not dead, but were indeed alive and living happily in their post Hollywood homes, this post would still be lacking in the entertainment department.
Am I really writing a “where are they now” celebrity dog recap???
Can this count as my most regretted published post?
Holly L says
Oh my the sad fate of those poor animals. At least they are not in rehab like the other stars!
Dominique @Dominique's Desk says
I loved watching the show Air Bud. It’s sad that the dog has died since then. They have very short life as a star.
Erin says
I’m going to have to agree with Holly, at least they aren’t all in rehab!
I wrote about my dog too, but she wasn’t famous!
Brittany Ciara says
I’m with Holly and Erin. I can see myself doing a post like this in the future about the dogs on Beverly Hills Chihuahua. Just saying.
M.Jay. says
That most definetelly falls under the regret department. My heart broke to hear how those poor little doggies passed. So like the horses, not funny, but at least you have the regret post you were looking for.
Melissa B. says
Yo quiero Taco Bell.
chanel says
This is sad. I hate that none of the dogs died of old age. I guess that’s what Hollywood will do to you. I think my favorites were Spud and Gidget….awww
Paula Kiger says
It entertained me, sad as it was!
*No animals were harmed in the composition of this blog!
Tanya says
I’m afraid I have to agree with Paula. That “special” way you have with words can make any situation somewhat funny! I goes well with my Smile Week posts. Have a great day-
Dumb Mom says
You know, you coulda just told us that they were all living happily ever after in some doggie retirement home or some such. Despite the fact that if Tiger were still alive he’d be a doggie freak of nature (b/c he’d be 30 which is like way more in dog years), it’s not like any of us with like lives or whatever would have Googled ex-celebrity-dogs-where-are-they-now like you did. We just trust what you say no matte how implausible and outlandish. And, since all dogs look exactly the same we never woulda even known. But thank you for telling us they are all dead. And yes, you may count this as your most regretted post if you wish, although the horse one sounds like a pretty good candidate too. Love you bunches and hope your health improves soon. Don’t want you to die or anything because then who would I have to tell me priceless information and celebridog factoids?
Amethyst Moon says
You always find a way to entertain and amuse, even with the most seemingly unamusing things. Cute post!
Los says
That Taco Bell dog freaked me the heck out …
Jen says
You posted about dead pets and posted about long hair. What is this blogging doing to us.
Hope you feel better soon.
Peg says
How sadly ironic that Tiger died while filming an epsode of her causing “distress” to a family member. It’s sadly funny.
And yes, this could possibly be considered both! Guess you killed two birds with one stone… or should we say several dogs? LOL
Diane says
Honey Tree Evil Eye? Really?!
liz says
Doggy doom and gloom makes me sad. :(
Jennifer says
You wrote a post about a man with no arms falling down?! I think I need to do a search of your site.
I don’t really care about the dogs. I’m not an animal person.
Jill says
Well, at least now we know HOW they all died. Homeward Board has been viewed in my house countless times… and I almost always tear up – how sad is that?
Shell says
Kinda depressing…good thing I’m not an animal person.
I know, I know, that makes me awful. But, I got a bad bite from a dog and my cat hated me after I had my first baby.
Jennifer @ The Mommy Mambo says
Pet lives never end peacefully do they? What about Verdell from as Good As It Gets? Where is he (or she) now? Probably had a heart attack from the amount of bacon Jack Nicholson fed him…..
I enjoyed your post, though I never thought much about these animals, it was informative. And dramatic LOL!!
Annie @ astonesthrowfrominsanity says
I feel completely deceived by the Incredible Journey crew! 11 sassy’s???
Blasphemy!!!
:)
Natalie says
Yep, I think this one could definitely count as your most regretted published post :(
Sonora says
That was so sad. Poor doggies! Sometimes I think it is better not to know. I have found the same true with a whole bunch of my favorite child stars.
dawn says
As sad as this is to say, it does seem as though they all went out in the typical Hollywood fashion… none died at a ripe old age at the knee of their beloved owner… Yep- definitely NOT moving to Cali now, even our pets don’t stand a chance of living a ‘normal’ life!
And don’t hate cuz i don’t think Hollywood is normal… I don’t think most of the people in the US are normal anyway!
Ordinary Emq says
One night my husband and I lay in bed and he told me about all the pets he had growing up. Every description ended with, “He got hit by a car.” Until the last one. He said,”We gave him to [uncle].” I absolutely screamed with laughter.
I loved this post. Morbid enough to be funny but not so much as to be macabre.
Andrea says
So sorry to hear all of the little guys are gone… But so glad to hear you broke the rules this week too! :)
Burgh Baby says
That might have been the most depressing blog post of all time. THANKS A LOT.
Megan (Best of Fates) says
Kat? What’s up with all the dog love? I mean, sure, we all want to know that every famous dog is dead. But what about other famous animals? The whales and chimps and donkeys that provide us with entertainment deserve coverage too. And until I hear they’re all dead, I’m going to keep checking back here, waiting.
Cori says
Sooooo did Tiger die while they were filming te show, so they rewrote it by saying Jan was allergic and explain why the dog was suddenly gone??? I’m a bit confused!
Lori says
Maybe I’m just sick and twisted….. but that was a great post! :)
Valerie says
Maybe Hollywood needs more cats and those 9 lives they come with…
I wonder if any of these famous dogs have been stuffed for posterity?
Sara says
LOL The first post today that actually made me smile :)
Jennifer says
Maybe this is bad, but now I’m really curious as to your other posts….
Losing Brownies says
Oh, how sad.
Jackie says
Going to look for those other posts! I liked spud mackenzie…..couldn’t stand that taco bell dog though.
karina says
I think an “oops” is in order, because I used one of last week’s prompts…but I figured, I wrote the post, so…whatever. lol
Megan says
Awww, I never knew I wanted to know about the long gone Hollywood dogs! Sad that they’re all dead, but now I know!
Feel better asap!!
JustMom420zaks says
@Lady who still cries at Incredible Journey: I still sob my heart out at the end of Where the Red Fern Grows (I was too lazy to scroll all the way up)
You guys should seriously check out what happened to The Little Rascals. Google it or something. They call it the Little Rascal Curse.
Super creative, I know.
terra says
ok. I am as genuinely shocked to learn that the homeward bound animals were myriad and not TRUE actors as i was when my father in law told me that the coal mine ride at the museum was not, in fact, 2000 feet below sea level in a real coal mine. I like the illusion. I wanna believe in super smart animals that CAN make it across the country by themselves without getting picked up by animal control.
Poor poor washed up/dead hollywood animals from our childhood. This is a sad post.
I hope you feel better soon! Love that you can still make us all laugh even through the fog of sickness~
WTH am I Doing says
Wow, I’m kinda bummed that all those celebrity animals are dead. I suppose they’d be in rehab if not. *sigh*
Kristy says
I couldn’t help but chuckle when I read the sentence about the horse. It just sounded funny. That sounds wrong, but I think you know what I mean.
Liz says
Great prompts this week! Thanks for hosting this!
SenoraG says
OMG, how sad that they are all gone! I am really enjoying taking part in this, thanks a bunch for your hard work getting it together.
PamJ says
Great prompts! This is my first time participating :)
Mary (Any Given Day) says
Hi there Kat. We met in Baltimore when you were here for Bloggy Boot Camp. At the time, I was blogless! I’m giving it a try now and thought what better way to start than with one of your Workshop posts? It’s also my first time doing one of these linky party things. I’m finally catching up with the times: ) My blog called Any Given Day is way toward the bottom of the list. I hope I linked up correctly! Now it’s time for me to blog hop!
And I hope you’ll stop by!
All the best,
Mary
Melanie says
Hilarious! I have to admit that I have found myself wondering in random moments whatever happened to the Taco Bell chihuahua. Now I know. :-)
I found you on Mothering Mayhem’s blog site and read her prompt so I came over to visit. Love your blog!
This will be my first time participating. We’ll see what comes of it…
