Pat took the kids to Target yesterday because Maile had saved up money to buy a coloring book.
Me: How was Target? Did you get the coloring book you had in mind?
Maile: Yeah…but Daddy was acting confused.
Me: (laughing) Why?
Maile: I don’t know…he just doesn’t know where things go.
Later I asked Pat if he knew what she was talking about.
Me: Maile says you were confused at Target. Did you need a little help?
He said he was annoyed because he took the girls to the book section at Target (directly next to the music/video department and across from the toys) but that the girls said the coloring books they wanted were not there.
After some back and forth between he and Maile, she finally explained to him that they needed to go to the Art Section.
Art Section?
Pat had never heard of such a thing (confusion), but he agreed to follow our troop of children across the store to the aisle of art supplies where alas, they did find the coloring books (jumbo sized) that they were looking for.
You know some people are busy prepping their kids for Kindergarten and Ivy League Schools.
My kids on the other hand…
well…
as long as they’re happy right?

Such a cute post! My hubby has a great sense of direction but often gets confused about which dept to go to in a store.
The pic of your son is absolute cuteness, by the way. Love his expression!

You are raising the future heads of the next Walmart! I wouldn’t worry! Sounds like they’ve got all the bases covered! Today Target, tomorrow the world!
I know my kids were the terror of their class when they had a class where they taught them how to budget money. They insisted that they could buy their groceries for a family of four with under $40…. the teacher and the rest of the kids insisted it was impossible. Obviously none of them lived with serious couponers! They ended up having to bring in our grocery receipts in order not to get a bad grade on that part of the project! They knew all the ins and outs of coupons, rebates etc. because part of their ‘jobs’ around the house included cutting coupons and filing them and tracking rebates (which went in our vacation account so they had some incentive!). It’s funny the stuff kids learn!

I am with you here. Kids don’t need to know stuff right now, they just need to be happy and have fun.

As long as they are happy is right…and I mean who cares if one day they work at Target? Sounds like they would fit right in…as would my kids.

Bet there wouldn’t have been a problem if it had been a Home Depot or something like that. LOL
What’s that quote? “And the children shall lead them”…

Haha! That last picture pretty much made my day.

Your kids will be brilliant – self-confident and free to express themselves :)
Kir says
oh I love this, my kids are brilliant too…they know where everything is in Walmart and Giant (grocery store) …I think it will come in handy as I near 50 (hey I am 41) and start to forget EVERYTHING.
your kiddos make me smile…BIG.

Happy counts for a lot in my book. Plus? They know how to find their way around a Target. That’s pretty awesome.

My kids are like navigators around the store. If I just take the time to listen to them, I’ll never get lost. That picture is so cute!
Jannica says
The whole time I am reading the beginning thinking…art section, he needs to take them to the art section.
Ryan (The Woven Moments) says
All for the sake of art. Love it!

It has always bothered me that they don’t keep coloring BOOKS with the books.
Cam - Bibs & Baubles says
very cute post and even cuter kid!

Oh, MY! That was SO cute! If I sent my husband to the grocery store for 3 things, it would take him forever, because he wouldn’t stop and ask for directions!
gina says
Did you know that Michael’s has $1.00 jumbo coloring books?
Andrea says
All my kids know Target rom a mile away! It is a rite of passage.
Andrea says
Sorry that should say From, clearly no one is ready for ivy league here! :)

Expressing your artistic side is VERY important! Having fun as a kid is too. Your kids have lots of time to get ready for PREP school and IVLeague colleges. Bring on the crayons, markers and paint!
Erin says
Hell I was just shocked that after my surgery my husband even braved Target with our two boys just to give me more time to rest! SHOCKED I tell ya! So to be a little confused as to what they were looking for is not bad! haha
JDaniel4's Mom says
They sure know where to find things! Glad they found the right book section.

I’m always impressed that my kids can successfully navigate, from the backseat of the car, their way to any destination. Be it McD’s, home or Nana’s they know the way–and are rather vocal about it. It’s annoying but also slightly impressive. I guess I don’t have to worry about them getting lost.
Cottage By The Sea says
Hey, they found the art supplies at Target didn’t they? There’s smart, and then there’s smart. Lets be real, manuvering around Target is going to come in a lot handier than knowing how to navigate an Ivy League campus. Lets be real.
Adrienne says
Haha! Hey, I agree! Navigating Target is a big deal! Good for her! :)
