The girls have been keeping a journal this summer. We started that project as a way for them to “write down their summer memories”, but really it’s just a “ploy to buy me more quiet time”.
I quite enjoyed Laina’s most recent entry about swim lessons:
“Today was a bad day but I did good going under water and then I started to cry bad because I do not want to go under the water.”
Beneath it, this drawing:
Clearly things are going well.

Awww…bless her sweet little heart! At least she’s really proud of making progress.

Um, I am thinking that your girls are not going to be water types.
Mama Kat says
I’m thinking you might be right.
And I love that under “related posts” is last years blog post titled “That Time My Son Nearly Drowned.”
I’m thinking we may be “mountain” people.
Cheryl @ Mommypants says
At least she didn’t draw a huge shark with crazy sharp teeth under the water..
Mama Kat says
You know Cheryl, I really admire your ability to look at the positive in things. ;)

Oh – I love the idea of a journal and it gives them a way to express themselves….I’m sorry she didn’t like the underwater part.
Mama Kat says
The journals are SO fun!! I wish I remembered to remind them to update them more often. It’s a great window as to what’s really going on in their little heads!

God love her. Call me crazy, but I don’t think fear of water is necessarily a bad thing considering that it can actually kill you.
Mama Kat says
So funny! Haha..yes. I concur.

sending her GOOD SWIMMING JUJU, I’m 41 and I still hate when I get a mouthful, you know????
We haven’t started with the boys yet, but I am not looking forward to it. TELL her from ME, that’s she’s awesome and keep going !!!!
Mama Kat says
You’re so sweet. :) Thank you! And yes, I totally get it…nobody wants a mouthful (or noseful) of water.

I am sooooo with you on this. My 8 year was TERRIFIED of water. We took a series of lessons and it is much better. BUT, I went for semi-private lessons so he could get more one-on-one attentions. Cost extra $$, TOTALLY worth it!
Mama Kat says
I’m absolutely looking into private lessons after this. They just need someone to take things a tad more slowly!

One other thing I would like to say is that instead of tnryig to suit all your online degree training on days of the week that you end work (since most people are exhausted when they return), try to have most of your classes on the week-ends and only 1 or 2 courses on weekdays, even if it means taking some time away from your weekend. This is really good because on the saturdays and sundays, you will be extra rested and concentrated for school work. Thanks alot : ) for the different points I have discovered from your blog.

Well if it makes her feel better my husband is 33 and is like a cement brick when he’s in the water. Heaven forbid he gets water anywhere near the facial area or he believes he is drowning.
Mama Kat says
Hahaha! Great visual!!

My middle daughter was the same way. They had to physically pry her off my leg. Now at 10 she is a fish

Ok, that picture is priceless! Hopefully you will all be laughing about this . . . soon!!

This is hilarious … even though it does involve your child crying her eyes out and possibly flooding the pool and your town!!! Love it!
