My middle daughter has always been a ray of light.
She was born with goofy grin on her face.
She makes her friends laugh.
She’s imaginative and lovable and wonderful.
Her big sister picks on her, but she loves her anyways.
Her little brother annoys her, but she loves him anyways.
I’m thankful that I have a child who does not melt into an inconsolable temper tantrum when things are not going her way.
But this summer?
She has turned into a whining, tattling, moody echo of her former self.
Yesterday I finally got fed up, “you know what? What happened to you? You’ve been whiny and moody and tattly and you never used to act like that? Why are you doing this!?!”
To which she responded, “I’M CHANGING!!!”
Which is just awesome.
Isn’t it a little early for this?
Jessica says
Changing should not be allowed from children until they move out of the house.
Simone @Greatfun4kids says
arrrghhh, yep I hear ya, Mama.
I’m wondering, how old is she?
Is she near a birthday?
APPARENTLY when they are near a growth milestone (e.g. birthday) their brains make these shifts and it can make them very moody and un-nice.
I got this off a friend when i was complaining about my nearly-seven year old. Around about the same time of year I earlier complained about her attitude when she was about to turn 6/5/4…
Yeah, here’s hoping we get our sweet girls back SOMETIME before puberty hits.

Oh my, just wait till they get to their teens, that’s when all the fun starts. Her baby pic with that smile is sooooo cute.

My middle daughter is the sweetest soul ever. However, if she starts to “change” as you say – then I am totally sending her to your home to live.
The Mommy Therapy says
Is it possible that all my kids are “changing” this summer? Whining and tantrums and straight up unpleasantness are rampant here since May. Maybe this is some sort of epidemic?
Jill Scott says
I have a 10-year old that is going through the very same thing. It’s way too early, and I’m not ready for it.
Bossy Betty says
And more changes to come. Hold on, Mama!
Cinnamon says
And as soon as you get used to it….she’ll “change” again. Kids ! Never a peaceful moment. Gotta love em !
Kir says
she’s beautiful, look at that smile.
I love how she knows…”I’m changing” and is so sure of it. WOW.
Sending you patience and virtual chocolate as she “changes” ;)
WebSavvyMom says
–>Dang those middle kids.
Clearly, the youngest ones are the most thoughtful and considerate. Just ask my older brother and sister.

Sometimes I wish we could say “change back” but then I’m not sure if that is what I’d want either. Changes mean growth, but sometimes I don’t see my daughters growing forward with their changes, but more like just morphing into a different child altogether!
Christi says
oh, my 11 year old is going through this! What’s that old movie about pod people? I think it’s happening here…
S Club Mama says
I’m just changing. Oh goodness, that got a giggle out of me! :) Good luck with that. My 4yo must be changing too. lol
skoots1mom says
from 10-14, hold on tight but breathe a lot ;)
she’ll challenge, question and do it all over again…
don’t be surprised when the hand goes up (at you)…those hormones are POWERFUL things…and I should know, I’ve LOST all of mine, and life is different every day
Jennifer says
I agree with Jessica. Changing is no fun.

Crizuddd. I thought the whole “changing” happened at like 15. Of course, toddlers have cell phones now. I am in so much trouble.
Jen says
Well, tell her to change back.
TImeless Creations says
I never liked change…things like this remind me why!
Kim @The Fordeville Diaries says
Yikes. I think my reply would (will) have to be: “I’m not good with change.”
Also, off subject, but is that a daiquiri-like drink behind her car seat in the infant photo? Or has my need for a drink tonight morphed into hallucinating?
Paula Kiger says
She’s so cute! Changing, but cute. :-)
Victoria KP says
Oh no! Very scary for mom, but very perceptive of your daughter!
Kisatrtle says
My middle daughter is Drama with a capital D. Can relate…
Casey Freeland says
She is A-DOR-A-BULL! What a cutie. Um, yeah, sorry about the change, but so awesome how she just tells you what’s what.
Cheers,
Casey
