Writer’s Workshop: First Day of School

3.) First day of school pictures…let’s have’em!

The kids had their first day of school yesterday and being the intelligent woman that I am I decided getting Taylor Swift tickets was a remarkable idea. And then oops, the concert happened to be the same day as the first day of school.

My kids came home, ate dinner, and then went to their very first concert.

They’re exhausted.

I’d love to tell you how the concert was, but evidently the tween sitting behind me new all of the words to Taylor’s songs, so I didn’t actually hear Taylor sing. I could tell you that the tween sounded lovely…but I’d be lying…so instead here are my little munchkins on the first day of Adult Christmas…otherwise known as school:

Bring on the bon-bons!

Now it’s your turn!

The Prompts:

1.) Write about a time you shoved someone.
2.) If you were a hoarder, based on your personality…what would you hoard? (better yet, ask someone who knows you well, what they think you would hoard).
3.) First day of school pictures…let’s have’em!
4.) 911 memories.
5.) Your summer recap in a poem and pictures.

First day fun! They all look so happy.

Too bad about the concert. I’d probably know all the words too (don’t judge) but wouldn’t sing them aloud.

Enjoy the ice cream. :)

Your children are so beautiful! I love seeing the resemblance among them, especially in their smiles. It will be fun to read about their adventures this year on your blog.

Thank you for the 9/11 prompt. It encouraged me to write about that day, which I found hard as I have kind of walled off my emotions from that day, but still I tried to write about it, so thank you.

YAY for school
BOO for the loud singing tween!!!
Maybe one day you will see her trying out on American Idol, someone really should tell her NOW, or it will come as a nasty SHOCK that she can’t sing as good as Taylor.

Being out of Sync with northern hemisphere seasons, we’re more than half way through our school year… which finishes in December for our Summer Holidays… so no school-return pics or summer holiday snaps to share – I have that all to look forward to.
I’ve shared about a Shove. Almost.
It’s “SHOVED”

Wow, sharp, clear photos. I love it! On the third photo, what kind of ruler is that on your daughter’s desk? I don’t believe I have seen one like that before.

Looks like they had fun. Awesome! :D

They look so happy and excited! I would have turned around and told her that you paid good money to hear Taylor sing, not her. The rudeness of people amazes me sometimes.

Looks like they had a GREAT first day. A good start over here too. So funny, I saw the light on in my son’s room at 6:45 am. I peeked in expecting him to be all sleepy eyed and he was standing there with a big smile already dressed.

That happened to me at a concert before. “Seriously, kid, just m-o-u-t-h the words … silently. Or hand over some cash because I didn’t come here to hear you!” Well, you’re a cool mom for presenting that as a gift. I just gave mine a Super Hero Squad cup with a bow on it.

Adult Christmas. Ahhh, must be nice. #3 doesn’t start his barely-worth-mentioning preschool program until October.

Taylor Swift THE SAME DAY? How did their heads not explode?

Adorable!

Your kids are so cute!! And I am sure Target appreciates the product placement in the first picture of the kids. I took my daughter out of most of her first week of KINDERGARTEN b/c hubs’s 25th high school reunion was taking place. Then she had a weird accident while we were gone, resulting in her face looking like hamburger – I am sure the teacher/fellow students wondered what the heck when she returned!! She survived, happy to say. This was all before Taylor Swift was on the pop scene!

Thanks for these workshops you do, Kat. They are very therapeutic in my book! I wrote about what it was as a working journalist that September day, and then also what it was like to learn about losing a friend at the WTC. Thank you for a place where I can share his story.

Your pictures are wonderful. I wish we could have taken some inside the classroom, but we knew that if our son saw us, he’d get clingy and generally be more upset, and we didn’t want to spin him up.

Aww. They look like they had a great first day but were probably exhausted the following day, you too huh. Can’t even imagine what you must have felt like at that concert. Surprised you didn’t have to choke a tween out. lol.

Nikwai September 9, 2011 at 8:57 pm

What an awesome mom. Oh to be tween again. Great photos. I absolutely think the one of the school bus is so classic and almost never captured. We always see the new clothes, but the real memories I think are in the little things. This year should be one to remember with it starting out with such a bang. SCORE! I’m super excited about topics too. I think I’m going to break down and stop making excuses and actually do it this week. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. :)
