4.) What was the last thing your child cried about? Write a blog post about the problem in the voice of your child.

MOOOOOMMMMM!?!?!! WAAAAAA!?!?!?!

I’M UPSET!

I’m upset because I don’t have my blanket. I’m laying in my bed and it’s dark and nobody is listening to me.

MOOOOOMMMMM!?!?!! WAAAAAA!?!?!?!

It doesn’t work like it used to. My crying. In the beginning when I cried she would do anything to make me feel better.

kainoa2

Now? She rolls her eyes.

ROLLS. HER. EYES!

It’s insulting.

MOOOOOMMMMM!?!?!! WAAAAAA!?!?!?!

God! Where IS that woman? She said she would look for it, but I don’t take her word for anything which is why I keep crying. I honestly cannot be expected to sleep without it. I’ve had my blanket since the day I was born. She made it for me. I bet she had no idea what she was getting herself into when she was piecing it together. She couldn’t have known four years later I’d still be carrying it around with me.

Independent Attachment.

MOOOOOMMMMM!?!?!! WAAAAAA!?!?!?!

I wonder if she’ll find it in the dryer. I put it in there for no real good reason at all when I finished throwing all of the cushions off the couch. She has a hard time with all the messes I make and is under the misconception that I have even the slightest amount of self control.

I do not.

kainoa

MOOOOOMMMMM!?!?!! WAAAAAA!?!?!?!

OUCH!

I was just nailed in the side of the head with…MY BLANKET!

I’ll hide it better tomorrow.

Good Night!

Waking up to @sitsgirls and @7clowncircus was nice, but they're not this cute.

Now it’s your turn!

Oh I love that. My son is all about his blanket too. That and Elmo!

My daughters loved their blankets, the younger one would cry when it was in the washer, because after it dried, it didn’t smell “right”.

Love the pics!

My son has a blanket that he needs quite often too. He doesn’t usually need to take it when we leave the house so I guess I’ll consider myself lucky on that point. ;)

Ok, so cute. I love his thought process! I’m sure you pretty much nailed it. This was way fun to read. And my heart leaped into my throat when I saw the baby pic. Too sweet.

My almost seven year-old daughter never had any luvies, but I’m sure she could relate to this post–A LOT. She certainly seemed to think that Mommy was “this woman who could never get me what I wanted WHEN I wanted it.”

This is my first time ever linking up here at the Writer’s Workshop. Hoping to make new friends as well as show-off my writing skills ;)

Thanks for the prompt; great list, as always.

As the parent of a 12 year old boy who still has a blankie (2 actually), I love this and can completely relate. The blankies do go into hiding a lot more now (especially if any other male under the age of 13 is going to be around. And — get this — one of them is PINK. Just saying. The things kids get attached to…..

Oh, yes, this brings back memories. My son had a blankie. My most vivid memory of it was once when it was in terrible need of laundering, and he was sick with a cold. He stood at the washer and cried for it during the entire wash cycle. Once it was done in the washer, I gave it to him…..wet. He threw it on the floor and continued to cry. Until it had finished drying. Sure do miss those days now that he’s grown!

It’s all your fault! B/c DUH you made it. You had to have known four years later he’d still have it. You had to have. HA.

OK so weird as this sounds, I used to want the kids to become attached to something. Everything I read talked about self-soothing using a (GAG) lovie. Oh, how I pushed blankets and stuffed animals onto them. The girls would each have a little bear that she would sleep with occasionally, but nothing as dramatic as Kainoa’s blanket. The boy, though? The boy is referred to as Sir Destructo. He has no time for soft, sweet, cuddly items. He lobs them out of his crib after trying to squeeze their bodies through the slats. Sure, he’ll hug some things sometimes (but I think he’s secretly trying to make the heads pop off). He’s quirky in that he HAS to have a blanket on him when he sleeps, even in summer, but the blanket doesn’t make it out of the bed.

“Put it it in the dryer for no good reason after I finished throwing all the cushions off the couch.”

Yep. Sounds about right.

This was really sweet. My little guy has a thing for tags. You know, the ones at the collar of your shirt, butt of your pants, end of a good blanket etc. He will go mad if I cut them out of his pajamas. I can just see him picking his dates based on the quality and silkiness of their tags…..”Mom, she was really nice, but she just didn’t have good tags.”

Love how he got nailed at the end with the blanket. I believe my kids could definitely relate.

:) i love this.
fortunately, i talked my Lovie into keeping her lovey in her crib when she was about a year old. so every morning she gets up, we say bye bye to her binky and grandmabear (lovey) and drag around a baby doll.

none of my kids had blankies…but every night they ask for random toys that could be anywhere around the house…and it’s my job to find it before they all go to sleep…
yay, motherhood rocks!

That’s so sweet. Did you make blankies for each of them or just him? We bought our kids “college quilts” that they are attached to as adults but they never had blankies they were attached to.

Great job! My child has an Eeyore like that. We have to keep buying them because they get gross. Now Disney has gone and completely changed Eeyore’s colors so you can only get them on the “open market”. We just bought three of them from eBay.

My daughter has a “me me”
It’s her soother and she calls it when she can’t find it.
“mmmmeeeee meeeee!”
“mmeee meee?”
“MMEEE MEEEEEEEEE!!!”
Annoying.

I had a blanket from my childhood that lasted till my last child. They each got it at birth and were ready to hand it down to the next one when they came along. I slept with it for years I mean even married because it had this silky edge that I would rub on my face.

I used to think it was so cute that my kids each had a blankie. Now, those damn blankies are the bane of my existence.

I see they are for you, too!!!

Aw blankies! I totally LOL’d when it pelted him in the head, not cuz it’s funny it hit him, but cuz I do the same thing with my girls’ blankies or stuffies for that matter.

I can TOTALLY relate to this. My oldest has a special “pink blanket” that she actually treats like a pet. She’s 6. My mom thinks I should take it away, but it’s not hurting anyone- she just sleeps with it. And I’m pretty sure, too, that she hides it from me so that she can sit and cry while i look for it. She’s a sassy one. Feeds off the drama. LOL.

my youngest has this bunny I bought her when she was a baby, hoping that by cuddling IT she wouldn’t need to cuddle ME at bedtime…it didn’t work. Anyway, now she LOVES this thing. If it is EVER lost we will be doomed. 3years on and it is her go to toy, she HAS to have it in bed, she freaks if we wash it, I freak if we lose it…

I so wish I’d bought a duplicate…

HA. My 4.5 year old has a blanket he’s had since he was a baby that he loves. Luckily he doesn’t tote it around like he used to and we had the smarts (well someone did and I read about it online) to buy multiple that look the same when he showed his attachment to it the first time.

My 2yo has a “blankie and a binki” that I dare not loose! It makes me sweat when I can’t find them, which I try to make it my business to know, at all times, where they are”.
