Writer’s Workshop: The Drink

3.) Write a post in just eight lines.

Relaxing on a plane comes naturally to me.

I’m not sure why people are always panicking and what not.

Clearly they’re not aware of The Drink that makes you happy and invincible.

Wine

After The Drink I usually realize my seatmates are highly attracted to me.

The Drink

It’s hard for me to fault them for this as I realize how difficult it might be to resist someone like me, especially in such close quarters.

Relaxing on my flight! Feeling safe, secure, and comfortable!

After The Drink I’ve also convinced myself that if the plane crashes I’d probably survive.

Homeward bound.

It just seems like something Jesus would let me do.

Flying is fun!!

Crash and live to blog about it…a working tagline.

Now it’s your turn!

Mama's Losin' It

Choose a prompt, post it on your blog, and come back to add your name to the link list below. Be sure to sign up with the actual post URL and not just your basic blog URL (click on the title of your post for that URL). For good comment karma try to comment on the three blogs above your name!!

The Prompts:

1.) Did you create a list of 22 things you’ve done in your life last week? This week, choose one item from your list and elaborate! We want the story.

2.) Create an FAQ page for yourself that answers frequently asked questions if people were to frequently ask you questions. People make those up all the time. YOUR TURN!

3.) Write a post in just eight lines. (inspired by Mommy Nani Boo Boo)

4.) Pour me a drink. Share a favorite drink recipe! (inspired by The Spohrs Are Multiplying)

5.) A day in the life of your pet…how bad do they have it?

You and The Drink crack me up! :>

I was right there with you on that flight. Don’t you remember me?! I’m the one who reached out and dug my fingernails into you with every bit of turbulence!
Ugh…flying makes me a crazy, sweating fool!

I’d have to have more than one drink when flying! I hate it!

PS Feel free to delete my duplicate link ups. I don’t know what happened!

Oh, I so understand this. The drink makes me dance with exceptional grace and rhythm. Especially on an airplane.

Reply

Carri November 2, 2011 at 6:56 pm

You’ve convinced me that it’s okay (and maybe even normal) to board a plane completely lit.

Thank you.

Ha! So good. I take the magic Valium. Works like a charm.

You are twelve kinds of attractive up close. Yes, you are!

I’m okay with flying, it’s the take off and landings I despise. A drink (or six) always helps!

Reply

Becca Burton November 2, 2011 at 7:15 pm

Does the drink work when you aren’t flying? Because if so I need some more of the drink….

I am such a fan of your writing. You would totally survive a plane crash!

Are you freaking kidding me? You are so unbelievably brilliant! When I saw your prompt to write a post in 8 lines, I honestly didn’t think that anything that came from that could be all that interesting—until I read yours. Besides the topic (The Drink) being one that is near and dear to my heart, the addition of photos just took it to a whole new level of creativity. You told a complete story in 8 lines. I envy your brilliance.

Simone @Greatfun4kids November 2, 2011 at 7:59 pm

Mama Kat you are the coolest.
Maybe next time I travel 30 hours nonstop with three kids I will try The Drink.
Oh wait.
Then I might get there and wonder where my family got to.
And why I am in Nice, France (NCE) instead of Newcastle, England (NCL).

But short haul, I will be sweeeet.

PS THANKS for choosing such AWESOME writing prompts this week.
Loved them ALL, and I think you will particularly enjoy “FAQ Paparazzie” it has photoshopping and everything.

Right gotta go.
Kids crying, dinner burning, late for cricket….

I too find The Drink to be an ef ective flight enhancer. However I find The Second Drink to cause me to rise to Too Much Fabulousness, and eventually sink into…sleep.

How did you finally get rid of your seatmates?

Reply

June Freaking Cleaver November 2, 2011 at 9:01 pm

Wow, The Drink DOES make you more witty! I think you should make it a regular part of your non-flying days, too!

Reply

MJ November 2, 2011 at 9:18 pm

After The Drink, my fellow passengers get well acquainted with me as I climb over them for endless trips to the bathroom. Damn tiny bladder. I think The Drink likes you better than me.

MJ,
This is hilarious. I do the same thing! Silly, but wonderful, chardonnay. God bless grapes! :)

You would so survive! The problem at that point would be finding those little bottles that survived as well, because you would definitely need one then!

Maybe I’ll need to take up social drinking before our flight in January. Here’s my motto: Flying is the second greatest thrill known to man: landing is the first”.

I wasn’t able to copy and paste your Writer’s Workshop badge this week. Rather than the “url”, it was just a picture of the badge….? I copied and pasted it, but it doesn’t link to your blog.

Love it. Doesn’t the drink make everything better? I specifically remember it having super powers when I was in college … Ahhhhh the memories :)

I love flying because it means that I am going somewhere fantastic. (hopefully). Also, I love a good glass of wine. So the two together? Fabulous.

Love it your post and love flying since it means getting away! When flying vodka works best for me!

Reply

dysfunctional mom November 3, 2011 at 3:23 am

I would probably also be telling everyone on the plane how much I loved them. I’m a very loving drunk. And especially with the potential impending crash, I’m sure I’d find it very important that EVERYONE knew that I loved them.
I don’t fly much. You’re welcome.

What? There is a drink? Does it work for the chump behind you kicking your chair for 14 hours?

Thanks for stopping by last night Kat. Funny that my scheduled tweet went out a day early..oops! I like the 8 liners and may do it often. Especially on the days where I feel long-winded. Had planned on writing that post all week for the PYHO link up, then saw the 8 lines and thought…what a better way to make a point! Thanks for the opportunity.

Drinks are always good on the plane, HOWEVER one must counter drink with water…more trips to the toilet, but well worth it!

Reply

Jenners November 3, 2011 at 3:53 am

Ahhh…so that is what my problem is. I don’t fly with The Drink!
I’m so glad that Jesus lets you do almost anything after The Drink.
I hope to someday sit next to you on a plane. : )

Kathy November 3, 2011 at 4:13 am

Love it….every thing is better with the drink!

Clearly, you are more attractive in close quarters. I mean, how could someone not love the crazy eyes or the self-portraits you likely took fifteen times? (That’s what I would have done)

i could use The Drink right about now. yeah, so what if it’s 750 in the morning. ;D

Reply

hillary November 3, 2011 at 8:45 am

Oooh. That was sneaky. I was expecting a drink recipe. Instead, I got a drink story. I just flew last week and have come to the conclusion that I NEED a prescription for flying. Because sometimes you have to fly at 8:00 AM. My fear of flying has reached a clinical level. I like all these pics! Especially the one of your seat mates. I bet they don’t even know how famous they are now!

Jenn November 3, 2011 at 9:22 am

The Drink is “mommy’s little helper” when I fly from London to Chicago with my kids (leaving the Hubs to work). God bless Virgin and their pre-flight bubbly, pre-dinner (and during-dinner) wine and after-dinner lap of the plane with the bottle of Baileys.

And I love the self portrait in the washroom….erm…you did coat that thing with sanitizer, right, cause the germs in there??….the alcohol in your system will protect you, but not the iPhone.

Reply

jenny November 3, 2011 at 9:59 am

The Drink is genius. Trying it on my next (sans kid) flight for sure. Can’t wait to find out what Jesus wants me to do…

PS Sorry about the multiple links, Linky hates me today >:(

You should probably not drink. Alcohol isn’t really your BFF, ya know?!

Reply

Marta November 3, 2011 at 10:05 am

You know I’ve never drank on an airplane. I’m missing out aren’t I?

I did in college once eat some “brownies” and then fly a plane a few hours later (WITH MY PARENTS). That was an experience.

Reply

Jen November 3, 2011 at 10:54 am

Well, of course airplane people want to be your friend AND Jesus would save you from a crash. I mean come on, DUH!

Ok please forgive that this comment is a double. I first left it on the wrong post. I obviously have never done this before.

Love this drink post! Relaxing on a plane also comes naturally to me. Most times I fall asleep right after takeoff and wake up just before landing. That doesn’t make me a very good seatmate. :-/

Thanks Mama Kat – I was so struggling with NaBloPoMo today… you saved me. Drink is so necessary on a plane…. try travelling half way round the world with two toddlers…. sozzled by the time we arrived ;-) I’ve written about the booze that’s saving me from the revolting cold I’m carrying around.

I’m always flying with my kids, so therefore, refraining from the DRINK! Last time I flew without them, I announced it to the whole plane ~really~ and its seems that joy kept the endorphins flowing so The DRINK wasn’t needed! :)
