1.) Is your child a morning person? Share a story, picture or list of reasons that supports your opinion.

When she was a baby she slept until 9:30 every morning and she was so darn happy when she woke up.

I remember thinking Wow! She’s my best sleeper! I’m so lucky to have a child who is going to sleep until 9:30 every morning forever!!!

And then she started getting excited about stuff. At first it started with big things like “Oh Laina got up at the crack of dawn because she’s excited for Johnny’s birthday party today…” but gradually over time it’s turned into, well…EVERYTHING.

My daughter is on her feet in the morning before her eyes are even open. I get up at 6am to get dressed and sneak downstairs for my sacred coffee time and BAM like Pe Pe Le Pew she’s ALWAYS right there!

She’s jumps out of the bed every morning, excited to start the day because:

  • Her friends are coming over.
  • It’s “library day” at school.
  • She has a new purple dress from Target she can’t wait to wear.
  • We have fruit loops.
  • My phone has a new game she wants to play.
  • She smells bacon.
  • She had a happy dream.
  • She had a scary dream.
  • It’s Saturday.
  • It’s Sunday.
  • It’s Monday.
  • It’s Tuesday.
  • It’s ANYDAY.

For years now I’ve been telling myself that my best sleeper is hopping out of bed in the morning because something exciting is happening for that day and she just can’t stay asleep.

After some speculation, however, and taking into consideration that this is now happening almost every day I do believe I have…a *whispering* morning person on my hands!

I don’t even know how this HAPPENED!!!!

Now it’s your turn!

I have to say, I envy your sweet little morning girl. I do NOT have the same problem!

I loved this! I am a morning person…and I had one morning child – my youngest! He was always happy when he woke up and I treasured it. However, I can imagine it would have been really annoying if I had NOT been a morning person!

I love the happy! Actually I haven’t had one grump out of the bunch yet. :) It’s the EARLY mornings I can’t handle. Let’s do happy at 8am instead of 6am how’bout!

I love children who wake up happy and excited, I just don’t see why they can’t do that AND wake up at nine…

Oh dear, she sounds just. like. my. son. I try so hard to get up early to have a little sacred-coffee-alone time and I’m usually foiled by that little boy who is just too excited to stay in bed.

My girls are 6 years apart and as different as night and day. B, the oldest never slept, ever. I rocked her for years then A arrived and the little angel gave me a reprieve and slept wonderfully.

Me too! Maile was super sensitive and cried a lot. I worked HARD to get that baby to sleep. Laina came along and I was so grateful to have a baby that was not quite as high maintenance. It’s so funny how people always get opposites. It’s like you used up all of your genes on one kid so the second kid gets the next set of completely opposite genes. That’s my very scientific analogy.

Cute post! Sounds as though your little girl has a wonderful outlook on life! Hopefully, she’ll always be this anxious to start the day!

I agree! I LOVE that she can always find something to be happy about every morning. :)

It’s so funny how kids can change like that! Kate is our morning person. And she, too, can find ANY reason to be excited to start the day. It also doesn’t matter what time she goes to bed; she still wakes up by 6:30!

I wish I had just an ounce of that energy and positive outlook. Can you imagine going to bed thinking, “OMG I can’t WAIT to wear those new jeans!! EEEK!” They’re too cute.

my first born is my morning person…some days up at 5…he would sneak into my room and say “Blakie wants bacon!” when he first started sleeping in a big bed…it was awful…now he’s 7 and he knows he’s on his own until at least the baby wakes me up

Mama Kat May 31, 2012 at 8:13 am

It’s definitely nice as they get older, I actually put a clock in Laina’s room and was all “when this says SEVEN…you can get up…”

Of course she often ignores it, but at least we’re making progress!

I was always a morning person as a kid (guess I still am) but my kids seems to give me a little bit of garbage when they wake up, even if it IS 6:30.

Why are these children of ours so excited to start the day? They just don’t understand the beauty of sleep, I guess.

Reply

Mama Kat May 31, 2012 at 8:15 am

I know right? I guess we just give them a few years until they’re moody and lazy and we’ll be all “What happened to your positive outlook on LIFE!?!?!”

Yay, this is my first time joining!! I never thought I’d have a morning child. How could they with ME as their mom. Let’s sleep in kids. Now, like you, I have two boys up at the crack of dawn. They get it from their father! How rude. =)

I have 2 morning kids and 3 that are NOT. I am definitely not a morning person but Husband definitely is so he takes morning duty and I get late night duty. It works well for us. I’m a beast before 8am period. Ha!

I just can’t get over the fact that you have FIVE kids to work with! Bye Bye sleepy time!

I can so identify with you wanting them to stay asleep during your morning alone time. With the summer here, my kids have been sleeping like rocks till at least eight and I have been loving it. I just hope for your daughter’s sake that she never loses that excitement about springing out of bed each morning. That’s how we all should be.

That really is the beautiful silver lining. She’s so dang positive. I love it!!

I’ve lost track of who’s a morning person around here because I’m up with the baby at 5 AM – by the time other people get up it FEELS like mid-afternoon to me, but it could easily still be the crack of dawn. :)

Mama Kat May 31, 2012 at 12:33 pm

Ha! That’s so true. When I get up THAT early I’m ready to rock and roll by 10am. Sometimes it’s hard to imagine how the rest of the world could possibly still be sleeping when you’ve already been up for FIVE hours!

She sounds a lot like my little girl! LOL. My husband keeps trying to figure out how we have a morning person for a daughter. (I’m sure it’s not from Mr. hit the snooze button 5 times in a row…)

It goes against all I stand for, this willingness to exit the bed, this seemingly okay with leaving the covers she has. It’s official. Laina can never visit me.

Oohhh … I have four of those. And I am NOT a morning person. Makes for doozy mornings.

I am SO not a morning person. Luckily, my children have yet to exhibit any of these morning people tendency’s. In fact my 5 year old goes to bed at 9p and is not remotely tired. I have to frequently tell him to stop playing and go to sleep. So I most certainly have a soon to be night owl.

Jennifer May 31, 2012 at 7:47 am

I have a morning person, but then I can’t really say “morning” person because it is more like a “I never want to sleep” person. I just don’t get her at all. I want to sleep all the time.

Reply

Jenn May 31, 2012 at 11:29 am

You have to love her enthusiasm – trust me, the alternative sucks.

My son has ALWAYS been an early riser, but he knows not to leave his room before 7am unless he is bleeding or blind or something.

My daughter, on the other hand, is the devil’s spawn in the morning, so there is no way in hell I’d call her a morning person. But she’s not a night owl, either. She just needs sleep. Or coffee. Hmmmm…

My oldest son goes from waking up before the crack of dawn one day, bouncing off the walls, making a ton of noise to the point of me yelling (shh…I know) at him to be quiet before he wakes up the neighbors, to sleeping in til after 9 the next day. I can never never tell which Rimmy I’m going to get on any given day.

Whatever happened to the apple not falling far from the tree? At least if they’re going to do these things to us, how about we try something like exceptionally good at MATH? Because that would be really far from my tree!

Why is it my girls are up-and-at-’em on the mornings I want to sleep in, yet on school mornings, it’s all I can do to drag them out of bed…

Susi May 31, 2012 at 7:25 pm

My two girls are the biggest morning persons and they don’t have that from me. My boy and I can sleep in until whenever not them. They are up and at them right away…

I have one of those morning people too! She is definitely the yin to my older daughter who is just like me and is a miserable person in the AM. Thank goodness I have the youngest one to bring some love, light and smiles to our mornings or we may have killed each other by now! ;-)

hahaaha, so funny. I’m kind of like that too. As a kid, the night before a field trip I’d wake up at like 4:30am. Can’t believe my Ma didn’t send me straight back to bed.
