5.) List the 6 best things about being an adult.
I was talking with someone recently about how now that we’re grown ups we look around at our peers and see we’re all still a bunch of children.
We happened to age, perhaps we got degrees specializing in certain fields, but beneath it all none of us really know what the hell we’re doing.
Our toys are fancier, our bedtimes are later, and suddenly we have the authority to pretty much do whatever we damn well please, but at the end of the day we just want to have fun. We want to go on vacation, we get giddy about girls nights and new shoes, and we still complain about having to get up too early.
We’re giant children.
Which is exactly why, aside from the weight gain (gah to be 55 pounds again!) and influx of responsibilities, I LOVE being an adult!!
OMG, we can do whatever we WANT you guys!!
Here are my top 6 best things about being an adult!:
1. Everyone in my house has to do what I say.
I try not to take advantage of this serious power trip, but it IS kind of nice to call a child down from bed so that they can get the remote for you when it’s clear on the other side of the room!
2. We eat what I’m hungry for.
Didn’t you HATE it when you were starving and you were all “Mom what’s for dinner?” and she’d be all “Rice Pudding” and you’d be all “Nooooooo!!!!” Guess what? We NEVER eat rice pudding EVER at my house! It’s awesome.
3. Credit Cards!
These people just HAND me cards filled with money and I can buy new clothes for everyone! You want to go to the mall in a limo? You got it! We can do whatever we want because these cards make me rich!
4. Who wants a puppy?
I remember begging my Mom for YEARS about getting a puppy or a kitten or a pony and now? I don’t have to ask anyone! I want it, it’s mine!
5. Trashy TV!
My parents were pretty disgusted with Three’s Company. At least, they acted like they were whenever the show aired. It was not permitted in our house and there were a variety of shows that were deemed inappropriate for us kids. When you’re an adult you get to watch all the sexually explicit TV you want and there is TONS of it. I’ve definitely made up for lost time! Thank you MTV!
6. Special Requests!
Adults can get people to do things for them just by acting like an authority figure. More specifically, I learned this sentence, “Hmmm, you know that’s not going to work for me…do you have a manager I can speak with?” and it works wonders! You want the nuts removed from your peanut buster parfait? You want a refund on a purchase paid in full only to see it on sale a month later? That sentence is all you need. I don’t know what it is about managers, but if the threat of asking to see one doesn’t get the desired result than actually speaking with one typically WILL. Managers are awesome! Because they don’t care…they just want you to go away happy so that you don’t cause a raucous on Twitter. You might look like a jerk pulling the “I’d like to speak with your manager” card, but it’s worth it.
Being an adult is AWESOME…what’s your favorite part?
Now it’s your turn!

The Prompts:
1.) Share what you were blogging about last year at this time…what has changed?
2.) What do childhood rhymes even mean? Write something that includes a rhyme you used to sing or say when you were a child. (inspired by writingfix.com)
3.) Do you have a green thumb? Tell us what kind of gardener you are!
4.) This one time I was sleeping and…

Puppies and no rice pudding also make you the best MOM ever! I also like making up my own bedtime and curfew. :)
Oooo, special requests is a good one. I’m pretty sure that when I was a kid I had no idea that asking for the dressing on the side was even a possibility.
I joined in. Thanks for hosting.
2, 3, 4, 5 has given me the imagine of zoo like place with Jersey Shores blaring in the background while Mama Kat pushes the pile of credit card bills off the table to make room for her favorite ice cream. What do you have nirvana happening over there?
The food thing definitely is definitely in my top 5… cereal can be a perfectly reasonable dinner, and mcdonalds need not be saved for a special occasion (like you, I come from a family of 6 kids, meaning eating out was a rare treat – now I can do it whenever I want!!)
It is kind of scary that we’re giant children and we’re the ones in charge… of course our parents were giant children too and they raised us… shudder! That’s the best kept secret ever, we think adults have it all together all the time and then they’re… us…
I’m gonna have to try that line, “Hmmm, you know that’s not gonna work for me….”
I guess I’ve never thought about all of us just being giant children. I’m not sure if that’s reassuring….or scary!
Dumb Dad and I actually made this the year of speaking to the manager. So far we’ve gotten a free Pepsi out of the deal.
I love being able to choose what to eat. My parents always made us eat leftovers… and I never liked it the first time around. I never have to eat another leftover. I don’t even bring home food from restaurants because I know it won’t be eaten.
Best thing about being an adult? Taking a nap every time I want to.
I remember when I got my first apartment all by myself, when I was a swingin’ single, and they said I could have a pet. I literally went to the shelter and adopted a dog the day after I moved in. I remember feeling like that was indeed an awesome thing about being an adult!
No rice pudding! You are such a good adult!
oooo i didnt think about the fact everyone has to do what I say! Thats a good one :)
Fun being an adult for sure :D
For the adult one I was totally going to say credit cards!!! I could not come up with other good ones so I went with the nursery rhyme thing.
I love being a grown up for all those reasons and more… (I wrote about the more). :-)
Yes, yes, and YES to all the things on your list! Now I remember why I like being adult. Paying the car tax, cleaning up dog vomit, and dealing with the Jehovah’s Witnesses at 8am this morning made me forget.
You know I knew I was an adult when school started the fall after I graduated and I realized I DIDN’T have to get up an go with the other kiddos!
My favorite part of adulthood is the liquor and the weed. OK no, they aren’t. Just the weed. The liquor, I mean! I meant the liquor. Seriously. Never mind. I do LOVE that whatever I’m hungry for is usually what dinner will be. Screw all that what do you have a taste for? And you? And you? Nope. Mommy’s pulling rank and she wants salmon.
Love it! And not getting a puppy – totally something you can do as an adult. My children want a dog so bad and I’m putting it off. It really is pretty great being an adult!
What I like best about being an adult is being able to do things my way all the time and unlimited cookies, those are pretty sweet.
OMG love #1!! The whole list is great, but I have to admit that I tend to take advantage of being able to have someone bring me something when I just don’t wanna get up! I used to look at other friends who did this with their kids and I didn’t understand…. until I became the “All Powerful Mom!” Muahahahahaha! Ahem… er… well, I mean, until I became “A Mom” and now have loving children to do my bidding… er, no, I mean FAVORS, yes, favors, to do favors for me… that sounds right. LOL
Yup, that’s pretty much my list.
You can add to that: “stay up as late as I want”
I can identify with that list! Especially the one about being a giant kid kaye—the road goes ever ever on
I like being able to have dessert before dinner, or breakfast. I can eat whatever I want, whenever I want it!
Most definitely the being in charge. I love being the boss.
I never looked at it quite like that, but you are so right! That stuff rocks!
I’m sad cuz I put a link in (#52) and my pic seems to be busted. It was a pretty pic too. :-(
My favorite part of being an adult is wine. The end.
Definitely freedom of choice. (Though that is where I can mess up too.) What to eat. What to wear. When to sleep and wake up. Though when your kids get older, becoming adults themselves, we can’t really tell them what to do anymore. Or we shouldn’t if we ever want to see them. So enjoy your youngsters.
Making decisions and standing by them is adult for me… ;-)
I must confess, my favorite thing about being an adult is deciding what’s for dinner.
I love being the “adult” and I use that term loosely. I also like that I’m the mom and can say things like, “cuz I SAID” so and it pretty much becomes gospel!
You might be able to get the nuts removed but I couldn’t get fries with my order. What’s up with that? Loved your post
I hadn’t even thought about the trashy television aspect. Good call!
