I don’t go to church anymore because I’m lazy. I hope it’s one of the 7 deadly sins I can beg forgiveness of. I think my favorite part of church is the music. I just get a kick at how dang happy people are when they’re singing in the name of JEEESUS! I’ve talked before about how my sister and I, to this day, belt out lines of our favorite Catholic School church tunes…there’s just something catchy about them, but this song is one of my favorites. I’ve never actually heard it sung at church, and I’m not even sure it can be categorized as a “church song”, but when a really talented singer tackles it I get goosebumps every time.
My love affair with this song began with Justin Timberlake and Matt Morris’s version on ABC during a show raising money for Haiti after the earthquake:
This version is sung by Jaymee Dee…a famous YouTuber and you’ll see why here:
I’ve shared this video before in my adorable babies and daddies video post, but I think watching him put his baby to sleep while singing this song is worth another nod:
What’s your favorite church song? Is there a version of this one you love?

Wow I had never seen the Justin Timberlake one and it gave me goosebumps. I have seen a couple of that song that have blown me away I will send you the links on Twitter…
Oh, Rufus Wainwright’s version for sure is hands down my very favorite version of this song

I keep trying to like the original (Leonard Cohen) or the Jeff Buckley version everyone loves so much. But…meh. Rufus wins.
I love that song too, but yeah, I don’t think it is really sang in church. I grew up listening to Southern gospel hymns, and sometimes I just really need to listen to that type of music. They have stations on Pandora for all types of religious music. If you are ever in the mood you should check it out.
I don’t even like that song and the first two videos blew me away. Justin really is talented, Nsync was one thing but that kid really knew what he was doing. Love him.
I grew up in church also and even though I don’t go the songs are still stuck in my head. Let’s see: “I may never march in the infantry ride in the cavalry, shoot the artillery….but I’m in the lord’s army! yes me!” ha
or this one “Jesus, you are my best friend and you will always be…”
yes, people get rather worked up singin about the lord. 13 years of private school – I could go on and on about the music
The Proof of your Love by For King and Country. Love the vey last little monologue part that says, “No matter what I say, no matter what I believe, no matter what I do, I’m bankrupt without LOVE!” also he’s got an accent that I could listen to all day long. ;)
I’ve never been a churchgoer, but I love Gavin Degraw’s version of Hallelujiah – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IApPj8Vfc68 I’ve seen him perform it live a few times, and it’s so haunting, much like the versions you posted above.
Hooray for Matt! He is from Denver and is AWESOME.
Here is my favorite pic I have ever taken of him:

And yes, Hallelujah is one of the best songs ever. Jeff Buckley’s version is by far my favorite. Especially since he not with us anymore.
Jeff Buckley does the best version of that song. hands down.
