4.) First day of school!
Over the course of the last ten years of raising children, there are a few things I specifically looked forward to. I love every age my kids have been and feel like I have been fully present at every stage of their lives, but in the back of my mind I was always looking forward to things like…their first steps, the day they could feed themselves, the day they could buckle themselves into their own seats, wipe their own rears…all of that.
But the day they all left me to go to school? THAT, my friends, I knew would be a game changer. Tomorrow we’re celebrating a huge milestone. All three of my kids will be going to school.
I love them.
I love them I love them I love them I LOVE THEM!!!
But I’ve had a reoccurring fantasy for the last ten years about sipping a hot cup of coffee to nothing but the hum of a running dishwasher.
Tomorrow? That’s going to happen. Granted, there’s still the daycare and I do have two little ones to care for…not to mention the eight school-agers popping over before and after school, but a girl still needs to WORK. If I’m being completely honest, my own kids have always been more challenging than the daycare kids. Daycare kids listen to daycare teachers. They just do. But mother’s own kids test mothers boundaries.
When the school bus comes tomorrow morning I will wave goodbye and I will reminisce on days where raising three small toddlers and running a home daycare were getting the best of me . And I will have a good long laugh about that. With my coffee. By myself. To the hum of the dishwasher.
And when my coffee is finished and the dishes are done, I will seriously contemplate having another baby because my GOD I NEED A BABY HOME WITH ME!!

That is an exciting milestone indeed!! Enjoy the peace and quiet!
And when you miss them…at least you have the daycare kids around to temporarily assuage the baby fever ;)

My son is typically driving me up a wall between breakfast, getting dressed, painstakingly selecting his show & tell item for the day and getting out the door in the morning but the minute I get back in the car after walking him to his preschool class room, I miss him like crazy.
I also enjoy the hell out of those quiet hours to myself.
I hope your kids have a great school year!

How exciting! I mentioned the hum of my refrigerator in my post… it was all I could hear and it was a glorious moment. Enjoy yours. I hope your daycare kids keep quiet so you can enjoy it!
Tiffany says
I hope you enjoy it!! It is strange when they all finally go. I’ve missed you! I finally got my act together for you WW!

I asked my husband on my son’s first day of kindergarten if we could have a second child. He said that was not in the plan. It was sure hard to see him go. Enjoy the sound of the dishwasher! I have been washing a lot of dishes. It is too quiet here.
Dianna says
You’ll probably find yourself quite lonely with just the sound of that dishwasher!
Thanks for hosting .

I feel the same way. It was torturous sending him last year. I had all that time to think of ways to make my uterus want a baby but it kept reminding me that said “school replacement” would be like training the puppy I already neglect…and holy crap, I forgot that I had a dog! So now it’s me and him again until the monster comes home to tug his ears and repeatedly say sorry as I walk through the shadow of lego laden food death.
It was also just as torturous this year.

They are so cute! Those eyes kill me!

Enjoy the quiet!
All of my babies are in school, though the youngest for only half day. I have no desire to have a baby in the house. Because babies don’t sleep at night. I’m too old for that.
Jennifer says
I so get this. It is such a relief when they get bigger and can do things for themselves, but at the same time it is so hard to see them get bigger and do things for themselves.
Darcy says
I love my kids but look forward to this day you describe….though I might have another baby before it happens!
Stephanie R says
Oh I remember the first day when all three of mine were in school for the first time. It was magical. Literally. 5 years later I still debate having another, just so it isn’t SO quiet during the day. Then I realize that I REALLY enjoy sleeping through the night and not having to wipe someone else’s butt.
Hope your kiddos had a wonderful first day of school!

I hope your coffee tasted exceptionally good that morning. Still smiling at the baby comment…I guess we’ll see how that plays out. :) Have a blessed day.

I found at least 2 Mama Kat Thursday posts that seem unrelated to your prompt memes.
I thought this spot was for meme linkups–not random opinionating.
I’m not sure the rules are clear on that. there are people who cruise posting places just to stick their stuff. I think violators ought to be removed.
Because of this, I’m turned off today from reading or commenting on anything because it’s too hard to tell which links are actually a prompt meme response.
Kat says
Sometimes there are links unrelated just fishing for comments or they’re new and not quite sure how this meme runs. I usually just delete them if I find them soon enough. If you want to send me the names I’m happy to do that. No biggie. :)

Feelin ya, mama. My youngest started kindergarten this year, and it is SO STRANGE to not have one home with me. Thinking of you as you begin this chapter!!
Andrea says
That dishwasher hum is very soothing, isn’t it? Enjoy these days!
Jessica says
I feel guilty leaving my son to go to work, but I have to say, it is nice to enjoy a cup of coffee at work. Unless I have a meeting, and then it just stinks.

I hope the day was as peaceful as you dreamed. That milestone left me whimpering and dabbing my eyes for days!
