5.) Talk about something your child learned this week.
One month in and Laina has already learned some pretty amazing things in third grade. She has learned to be responsible for filling in her reading log, she has learned to take care of the books she brings home, she has learned to listen to her teacher and be a good helper.
But perhaps the most important lesson of all occurred last week when Laina came home with a very disappointing story to tell me…about a bragger…
Laina: MOM!?! A girl at school today did TWO very bad things!
me: uh oh, that’s not good.
Laina: She told my friend she’s a BLOBBER face!
me: Blogger face? I mean…that’s not so bad.
Laina: No BLOBBER!
me: OH! Well…that wasn’t nice. I mean I’ve been called worse, but you’re right that was very bad!
Laina: ANNND? she said my friend’s braces were icky and that she had something BETTER…and then she bragged and showed all of us her silver tooth!
me: Oh no she di’int!!!
***
Laina learned that nice girls don’t BRAG about their silver teeth.
Bragging makes people feel bad and now everyone is going to want silver teeth and not everyone can afford them. Almost everyone can afford candy though and I’m pretty that will help secure the silver cap they’re all pining for now that the third grade bragger went and bragged about it.
Third grade is hard.
Tiffany says
It is SO not nice to brag about your silver tooth!
JDaniel4's Mom says
Not many other third graders would have silver tooth. It has to be hard to top that.
Ginny Marie says
Third grade is tough enough without braggers!
MJ says
If I had a silver tooth you can bet your booty I’d be bragging about it. Kids these days have EVERYTHING.
Marie at the Lazy W says
haha!! way to turn it around, momma! get those silver teeth one way or another. Love it.
Maggid says
Thank you for a Third Grade perspective.
It’s such an intense time of trying things out –
What great values your child has . . .
Love this.
Jeanette says
Aww, and all of this time I thought I didn’t have anything to brag about.
Mindi Stavish says
Hahah oh that silver tooth. Jealous! Where can I get one?!
Ashley says
Ha, you have to love what kids will brag about! How funny. Lessons learned…
@PamelaMKramer - A Renaissance Woman says
She is going to look back and laugh later on about that silver tooth. Poor thing, I bet that cute puppy makes it all better, almost. :)
So glad that I got an entry in this week. Just when I thought I was out that girl came home and gave me material. Awesome!
Angelina Costenaro says
Gee, and people are so worried about those Common Core Standards being implemented in schools. Forget the Common Core! What we really need to be teaching children is not to brag about their bad dental hygiene!
Tina says
A silver tooth? Man, what is the tooth fairy going to do, with silver and gold going for top dollar?
Andrea says
Pfft. Silver tooth. Now if she had a GOLD tooth, she’d have something to brag about.
Alisha says
Darn those kids with the silver teeth!!!
Jennifer says
I have very similar conversations with my third grader. Third grade most definitely is hard.
