Thursday was pajama day at school and because my kids have rags for pajamas I actually went to Target and bought all three of my kids a new pair. I even sprung for matching slippers because they were on sale and my kids have never had slippers before so what the HELL! That’s just the kind of living on the edge I do!
I know Kainoa prefers to wear shorts all year long. And by “prefers” I mean, “he doesn’t own a pair of pants”. He has worn pajama pants before which is why I did not really foresee the problem I was about to face.
When the kids got home they saw their new pajamas and loved them. Maile and Laina were thrilled to have something decent to wear and Kainoa said something along the lines of, “I like them mom! I’ll wear them…next time…”
And I was all, “you mean tomorrow right buddy? For pajama day right?”
And he was all, “no I’m gonna wear these ones…”
And he came out with a pair of very thin super Mario pajamas that USED to be pants but that I actually cut into shorts this past summer as a joke.
WELL JOKE’S ON ME FOLKS, because he loved them and by God he was going to wear them for pajama day!
I gave him other options and I told him kids were not allowed to wear pajamas to school that had been cut with scissors, but he had been looking forward to this ALL week!
“Kainoa!! How about you just wear regular clothes then. None of these other pajamas are shorts and you CANNOT wear those tiny things! You don’t HAVE to wear pajamas!”
To which he responded, “but MOM!!! Tomorrow is Pajama DAY!!’
Not wearing pajamas was just not an option when the school had gone and made a whole day about it.
Look…I know when I’m fighting a lost cause. I could have tackled that boy to the ground and forced him out of those awful pajamas. I could have kept him home from school, but I guess with this third kid I’ve kind of lost my will to win every battle.
So he wore the pajamas to school proudly and I sat home completely embarrassed that this kid was representing our family in Mario pants I had cut myself.
This week on Mommalogues we were asked to talk about our most embarrassing parenting confessions. I talked about an incident that happened in Hawaii when my daughter REALLY had to use the bathroom.
(video here)
But that’s only because Pajamagate 2013 hadn’t happened yet.
The embarrassing moments just keep on coming!

My kids used to get new PJs twice a year – Christmas and pajama day.
I was hoping for a pic of him in his trendy cutoff PJs. lol

That is EXACTLY when my kids get new pajamas. The rest of the year…doesn’t a t shirt work just fine?
I thought I’d spare him the embarrassment of a posting a picture. Trust that there was one taken. :)

I have deluded myself into thinking that the teachers silently applaud the moms who obviously let the kids do their thing. My best parenting began when I stopped commenting and started photographing. I really want to see that picture. ;-)

You are so funny! I like the video too. That one would have to be in the top 10 list for sure. lol – Most embarrassing? I’m gonna think on that one. Oh wait, it just happened last night in fact.
We were at a Halloween party and one of the guests has a bald/shaved head. He was bending down to get some ice out of a cooler and my daughter rubbed his head. Yes, I was mortified! She doesn’t know him and our family only knows him in passing, at church of course. Nice!

I have to laugh only because I have a kid who would do the exact. Same. Thing. Oy. I also have a different child who doesn’t own a pair of pants. To his credit, he is growing like a weed and what pants he does have are usually too short. I keep telling him to stop growing and it will solve all his problems. He just rolls his eyes at me.

LOL! That totally sounds like something my kids would do. I had one of them who was CONVINCED that her shirt was not backwards (it was) so she went to school that way. And another time she was sure that her dress was on the right way (it wasn’t) and we got picture proof of that one! Gah!!
