3.) Write a 16-line poem about a moment from your childhood that changed your life for the better.
This is a story about how tissue and new shoes changed my life for the better…
Shiny and white and new, for little feet that grew
Excited to wear them, I shoved my feet in,
And skipped to church in my shoes.
I smiled and tapped and whirled, the prettiest of girls!
But something felt tight, my feet weren’t right,
And I stopped with so many twirls.
I sat in the pew and I prayed, for an angel to send first aid.
It seemed my feet were still growing, the pain was mind blowing,
But the angel never came.
On our way home I blew a fuse. I whimpered about abuse.
My feet were throbbing, I was hobbling,
I hated those stupid new shoes!
My Dad inspected them real slow, He seemed to want to know
Why my new shoes were aching, and while I was still shaking,
He found the tissue still bunched in the toe.
He laughed out loud, but I know now, not to wear shoes before taking it out.

So tragic and so very, very funny. I bet you always hated those shoes after that.
Emily @ My Pajama Days says
Giggle! I can totally picture that little girl and the mystery of the growing feet. It never ceases to amaze me how many times I have to remind my children to take out the paper before trying on shoes!
Tima says
This made me giggle. It’s something I would do. Even today!
Lydia says
I could FEEL that pain. I used to shove tissue in my shoes if they were too big — but I’m also guilty of making this mistake and wondering what the heck was wrong with my shoe!
OneMommy says
Oh! I remember when my mom would intentionally put tissue in the toes of my shoes so they’d fit better and it just drove me nuts!
Betsy says
That is too funny! Something I have done too lol

Such a cute poem. I could feel the fun & whimsy and the pain. Who knew tissue could be such a nuisance?

This just brought back the memory of my husband dressing my (then) tiny boy and shoving his feet into his new shoes. To the little guy’s credit, he never complained that day. But when I got him home and undressed him, I discovered the tissue in the shoes. When I asked Hubby about it he said, “Well no wonder I had such a hard time getting those shoes on!”
Janice / GatheringGraces says
Great lesson! But admit it….you still make that mistake sometimes, right? ;)
Angelina Costenaro says
Cute poem! I thought we were going to learn at the end that you had the shoes on the wrong feet. But oh no, it’s that tissue that you will get you every time!
Lisa @ The Meaning of Me says
Fantastic! I can remember my Mom stuffing the tissue in the toes of our shoes when they were just a bit too big because, well, that’s how you bought them so they’d last a while. But man that stuff did hurt when your feet finally started to grow!
