6. You’re better off without it…
I knew better than to start playing Candy Crush. All of my friends were addicted to the game and I’m definitely the type to get sucked in so I steered clear.
Until I didn’t.
When I finally downloaded it I whizzed through the first five levels and then got stuck on a tricky one and my brain was all, “Oh you can’t trick me! I’m going to beat you and I won’t stop until I do!”
And this went on for about 500 levels.
The further I got, the less I could stop because I had gotten so far! Each level a new puzzle that begged to be solved! If I removed the app it would be all for nothing.
But the game doesn’t really end. You can’t beat it. And even if you could beat it, you’d only gain the satisfaction of finally defeating something that has consumed your brain every night at bedtime. And in the dentist’s lobby. And when you should be probably cleaning something.
One day, something finally snapped in me.
I need to be done with this game.
I realized time spent playing the game was during the precious time I once used to read.
I missed reading.
Delving into a book! Investing in characters and plots! Learning things! The satisfaction of turning that last page!
Now that’s a true feeling of accomplishment!
So I did it. I deleted Candy Crush on every device I own. I removed the app from Facebook and for a few days I’ll admit it was a little rough. How many times did I mindlessly grab for my phone to try to beat another level?
But I’m pleased to announce I made it to the other side cold turkey. I no longer shed tears for all the time it took me to defeat 500 levels. I am no longer craving Candy Crush and I am better off without it!
I wonder when I’ll decide to pick up that book…

Candy Crush is certainly addictive. I too was sucked in it before but am doing my best to abstain from it and the sister game Candy Crush Soda :)

I’m not competitive enough to keep playing when it gets hard, so Candy Crush is lost on me. I have seen the zombie-like faces of many friends and family members while playing, though.

I ended up deleting Candy Crush right before I started nursing school and I’m really thankful I did. My dad on the other hand got a Facebook account just so he could get rewards from friends and stuff for Candy Crush… eventually he got fed up with it though. :)

This was me with some game where you pop as many of the same colored dots in a row as possible. Don’t even know if the game has a name. I got so addicted that when I closed my eyes at night I still saw colored dots. Had to end it. Kind of scary. I never realized that I had addictive tendencies like that. But now I know. Colored dots are my gateway drug!

Excuse me, Miss. Would you mind terribly deleting number 8? Apparently my photo had performance anxiety of some sort so I tried again.
Thank you!

I have never played it. I don’t trust myself to be consumed by it., I barely have enough time to get stuff done now – I’m too easily distracted.

My addictions are Trivia Crack and SongPop. I have been thinking of doing the same thing you did with Candy Crush. Your post gave me food for thought (or candy, as the case may be!). Thanks!

I’ve noticed friends of mine who get the most obsessed are mathematically oriented like myself. However, I need to delete. I have realized I could do some good reading. I am in the habit of playing the television and not knowing what is happening because I am so busy candy crushing. I’ll keep my vice awhile but in limited quantities. Good post.

Haha! My Hubby would definitely be better off without Candy Crush…he is on level 700 and something! Like really? Why!?! He plays it anytime he has to wait for something…even during commercials! LOL My current App Addiction is Pou…I have no idea why and I too am probably better off without it… :D

YES. I’m like this with “Frozen Freefall”. I spend all this time playing it and then I get to the end of the day and I’m like…I got nothing done. $%!&!!

That is one game I haven’t succumbed to – and probably won’t. It just doesn’t appeal to me from the title alone.
Now Trivia Crack. That is another story. And I’m shocked that I even like this game, since I’m more of a word game person than a trivia game person. I blame my son for this one.

I used to play Gardens of Time on my desktop browser. Loved that game. It was easier to play then actually accomplishing like design work on my computer. I was at level 70-something, when one day the company decided to terminate the browser version and my game was taken away. :( I’ve never found a good replacement since. So I actually have to work on my computer.

Oh, that Candy Crush…had to do the same thing. I do love the Words with Friends, though. And someone got me hooked on Trivia Crack. Crack is the right word because that will just hook you and the next thing you know your day is over!

I never played this one, but play the Lumosity brain games instead, usually three times a week. I’m not addicted to them and feel they actually might help keep my brain sharp. Glad you realized how much time you were wasting with this game and had the sense to delete it. Good for you! For a good read, check out our book blog. I think you might like BEFORE I GO about a young woman with Cancer who is concerned about her husband managing without her (I could relate) so she tries to find a wife for him to replace her after she dies. I completely understand. I’m the same way about Trivia Crack and Words with Friends!

I never got into Candy Crush.
Side note: I promise I only hit the button once this time yet I still got about 6 uploads!
