My daughter said she doesn’t like the way I dance because she believes I dance like I think I am Ariana Grande.
And ever since she uttered those words I’ve been trying to make sense of them.
She has liked Ariana Grande since she first appeared on Nickelodeon’s show Victorious.
She likes Ariana Grande’s music.
She likes watching Ariana Grande perform her music.
So what does she MEAN when she says she doesn’t like me dancing like Ariana?
I’m thinking she means I’m falling short in my abilities.
I’m thinking she means to say that while I think I’m dancing like Ariana Grande, I’m actually NOT nailing it.
Obviously I’m disappointed to hear this.
It’s borderline devastating.
I don’t want my kids to feel uncomfortable and I don’t want to embarrass them when their friends come over.
Which is why it’s important that I continue practicing now more than ever.
I’m going to make my kids proud if it’s the last thing I do!!

I love it … as I, too, have a child who “welcomes” the idea of my singing and dancing to all the latest popular songs in front of both her AND her friends. And speaking of popular, did you ever hear the related Ariana Grande song? I wrote a whole post about it. http://olddognewtits.com/2013/05/13/the-post-that-couldve-been-written-by-13-year-old-me/ And, for it, I really wanted to make my own lipsynching video with my daughter. She declined. Vehemently.
I had costumes ready and everything. :(

I am so grateful when my children point out the things I can improve upon. And, just like impersonations, puns, or daring fashions, dance skills should be practiced diligently before an audience to get absolutely perfect. ;)

When will they learn that insulting us is the best kind of encouragement we could ever receive?

This made me giggle every time I thought about it yesterday. We always think about Mean Girls and Bullies when we hear that quote…I love applying it to my own children. Hahahaha!

Lol kids are so brutally honest, I learned that with mine! At least you don’t have her annoying voice!
Mama Kat says
Her voice on her tv show drives me batty! But I actually really like her music…*clings to youth*.
