2. Something that made you smile this week.
My Mom is not a dog person.
It’s not that she doesn’t enjoy animals, it’s just that if she’s going to own one it needs to be perfect.
Perfect or dying.
She discovered a tiny, starving and lost poodle puppy in the bushes of her forest a few years ago and that puppy won her over.
When my stepdad’s cocker spaniel died, their perfect puppy started howling during the day.
My Mom and stepdad have discussed adopting another dog to ease their perfect puppy’s grieving process, but because my Mom really doesn’t like the responsibility of another dog (or the risk that it might pee all over her house), they have held off.
Recently Mom had a change of heart. She drove past the humane society during outdoor doggy play time and she spotted the perfect puppy.
She called my stepdad and was all, “I think I found the dog for us!”
She narrowed in on this dog because it was small and unlike the other rambunctious dogs during play time, this one appeared to be sitting quietly, removed from the chaos, keeping to itself.
A small, quiet sitter.
PERFECT!
My stepdad decided to pop over to see if he could find this perfect dog and bring it home.
And what do you know?
It was still quietly exactly where my Mom had last seen it.
Because it is a STATUE.
And yes, that’s an actual photo of the actual dog that my Mom actually thought was real.
I got such a kick out of the story that I forced my husband to pull over for an up close look when we were in the area. And by “in the area” I mean, we drove 30 minutes out of our way specifically so I could look at this dog.
In her defense, the dog was spotted while she was driving. I’m thankful this is not a dog she inspected up close.
And really…it is pretty perfect.
Update:
When I sent my stepdad a text message asking him for a picture of their perfect puppy. He sent it without asking why I wanted it, so he had no knowledge that I was sharing this perfect puppy story with the internet. With that said, he also sent a second photo and the message, “I’m sending this one of me and a friend as a little extra!!!”:
He and my Mom could not be more perfect for each other. I hope they’re very happy with their perfect friends and perfect puppies.
The Prompts:
1. Throwback Thursday: Choose a photo from a previous February and write a poem or a blog post.
2. Something that made you smile this week.
3. Write about something mean you did to a sibling growing up.
4. Write a blog post inspired by the word: red.
5. List 10 things you never knew until you were a mom.
6. Write a 26-line poem using all the letters of the alphabet, where the first line starts with the letter “A,” the second “B,” the third “C,” etc., culminating with the final line starting with “Z.”

OMG. What a great story!
The lovely one says
Hahahaha! That’s totally something I would do! I’ve been know to find perfect animals out of statutes, broken tree limbs, old tires…. maybe I need glasses!

I did literally laugh out loud. That is a great story.

Oh, that made me smile, too! Thanks for sharing (does your Mom read your blog?!).
We both chose the same prompt, but had two entirely different “takes’ on it; it’s interesting to read about all the things that can bring a smile!
Thanks for hosting.

Hahahahaha! This started my day off with a laugh!
Sounds like something I would do.
Kimberly says
OMG…hahaha!!!! That is hilarious.
Actually, I shouldn’t laugh because my neighbor has this weird plastic owl and she perched it on her kid’s play fort that I thought was real.
I named it Peter.
Mama Kat says
This really inspires me to put more fake animals in my yard.

This made me chuckle!
Actually, I shouldn’t laugh because I am just like your mother. A perfect pet for me WOULD be a statue.

My husband would say that, yes, indeed, that is the perfect puppy. And most likely the only kind of puppy we would be allowed to get.

This is a great story.. And your husband is so patient to take that drive with you :-) lol! I can only imagine the head shaking back and forth.
Tina says
That really IS the perfect puppy! I have a fake cat in my garden, and I can’t count the number of times I’ve “discovered” it and thought it was real. I need help!

I’m not a burst-out-laughing kind of person very often. For this? I laughed so abruptly and loudly that I sent two cats racing out of the room from a dead sleep. Your step dad’s picture was the cherry on the top of the cake!

I could have a puppy like that! So perfect! loved the story.
Crystal says
This is so adorable! I read it with a big smile.

A bit of a late visit but we chose the same prompt! Seems like everybody’s up for smiling these days.
I think I would go well with your mom. I’m not much of an animal person as well. But if I had to choose a pet, I would probably go for something like a pet fish. In an aquarium. In a corner of the house. That way, I can enjoy it when I want, but it won’t necessarily be chasing me around the house when it wants to play. :-)
