4. Write a blog post that ends with the word: again.
About a month ago I shared that Laina was begging for Littlest Pet Shop toys and they cost about $30 per figurine on Ebay. Because they’re “rare.”
I made a video sort of poking fun at her desperate pleas for the expensive toys and my target audience for that video was YOU GUYS. Other moms. But the LPS brigade caught wind of the video and I am currently sitting at 900+ comments and 60,000+ views.
LPS lovers across America are commenting, viewing, sharing, and SUBSCRIBING. I did film a follow up video that addresses their concerns, but have not uploaded it yet. In the mean time, I have this new audience of eight year olds that I had not anticipated.
So, I thought this would be the perfect time to post a rap one of my daycare kids made up. Something they could maybe relate to.
I had heard her singing it and then asked her to do it again for the camera. I was so impressed with her rap (1st grade!) that I shared it with the other parents and added a Songify track to make it sound really legit. I uploaded the rap to YouTube and waited for my new LPS following to LOVE it:
But instead they were all, “Baby K!”
And I had no idea what they were talking about.
Someone said, “NO THATS BABY KAYLEE”
I looked up Baby Kaylee:
And found out I plagiarized her.
I thought my daycare kid was the next American Idol! The next Voice! The next Nicki Minaj!
Instead she’s going to get me sued for copyright infringement.
I’ve been duped by a child. Again.
And subsequently ratted out by children. Again.

OK so that is hilarious. I liked your video much better that the ‘real’ Baby K because let’s face it: No matter how cute a rapping kid is, 1 minute of a kid rapping is always going to be less than 4 minutes of a kid rapping.
Mama Kat says
All child interactions should be less than a minute at a time actually. ;)

When it comes to popular culture, they are so far ahead of us that, really, you didn’t stand a chance. That new audience of yours will not be afraid to call you out on the slightest thing. Good luck sister!

I honestly always believed I was hip enough and interested enough to keep up with the times, but now look what happened. I am SO not up with the times!
Kathy says
Ha ha, the fact that we still use the word “hip” should be our first clue to our cluelessness ;)

Is it just me or does rap sound so much better when you listen to a kid sing it while you stare at pizza?
This is awesome.
The fact that there are some serious Littlest Pet Shop fans out there just *Blows Up* my mind. I need to call my mom because she hoarded all of our old toys. You know, just in case I wanted to traumatize my future children with my robotic talking Cricket doll. Remember that thing? I thought she was going to smother me with my pillow at night.
Mama Kat says
100% staring at pizza is the best thing to do while kids rap or sing. You should see some of the comments those kids are leaving. They’re yelling at me to “stop gossiping” about my daughter and instead respect her hobby and interests. I’ve upset a community I didn’t even know existed!

Baby K is going places. She is going to be hotter than Littlest Pet Shop someday!
I’ve missed you. It has been insanely busy here…which I hate. Hoping to ease into a calmer summer.
Mama Kat says
Hard to imagine being hotter than LPS, but if you dream BIG…big things happen! Glad to see your face today!!! The opposite will happen for me. Summer means kids will be home full time and things will inevitably get busier around here. That’s okay…it’s a good busy.
Melissa says
Hahahaha…so good! I worked in daycare for six years (specifically with 2-4 yr olds) and the things that would come out of their mouths…priceless!
Mama Kat says
It’s possibly the most rewarding part of the job. Just the genuine conversation that comes out of their mouth. I could listen all day. And I do. ;)
Monica says
Littlest Pet Shop toys are rare? Since when?! Mind you, I guess I’ve had no reason to care about them since I owned my set in the 90s.
Gigi says
Ok, that is hilarious…AND sounds like something I would do.
Natalie says
I’m telling you. One of the best things about being around kids is laughing out loud at things that they come up with!

AWw.. Kids really know how to spot the latest trends. I too prefer your videos then the “original” ones.
