If you asked me to choose a photo that might sum up the smallest human I’m raising, I might share this one.
That look of anger/irritation you’re seeing on his face is because I had the audacity to get angry at him first for breaking a rule and putting himself in danger in the process.
How dare I?
This boy is the master of flipping the issue. I send him to his room for not keeping his hands to himself and later he’s willing to forgive me for being so mean…if I apologize.
But then there’s that other side to him, the cuddly, baby-loving, mama’s boy.
So what if he likes to climb on furniture and terrorize his sisters and play video games all day. Just look at that face!
I often joke that my greatest challenge as his mother is simply to keep him alive. I wouldn’t even call him a risk taker so much as he is just completely oblivious to any risks that might exist at all. What oncoming traffic? What cliff? He’s risky in the least intentional way possible.
I hope he continues to skirt past any significant harm for the rest of his life. Lord knows I’ll be redirecting his body back to the safer route forever…even if he retaliates with the angry staredown.
Happy eighth birthday Kainoa!

Happy 8th :)

Aren’t birthdays the best?!! And his almond shaped eyes – wow! My boy was/is a calculated risk taker. Did the craziest things…but somehow always knew his limits. That we don’t have any broken bone stories to tell is a miracle!

Happy Birthday to Kainoa! How handsomly he is growing! And what a talent for reversing things. Haha. My son does the same sometimes when he gets in trouble. Ah….kids. Or maybe just sons? My daughters don’t do this. :)

He’s gotten so big. I have been reading your blog for five or six years now and it’s amazing to watch kids grow up online. :) I just gave birth to our first baby (a daughter) a month ago so I’m super excited to be able to enter mommy blog land! Happy birthday, Kainoa!
