Summer is winding down and honestly I don’t know how we made it this far, this fast. When school ended I filled in a calendar of activities we could fall back on when boredom strikes and in so doing, their summer survival kit was created:
- I have a beach bag packed with sun block, goggles, and towels at all times.
- I have packs of water accessible in our car.
- I have phone numbers stored for playdates.
- I have popcorn and movies ready for impromptu movie days (aka mama has a conference call).
- We are filled to the brim with crafts and ice cream and kid friendly recipes.
- Bicycles are pumped, helmets are standing by.
My kids have been well prepared to survive summer and so far I think it’s been a success. We have gone to water parks and lakes. We went roller skating and ice skating. We did volleyball camp and road trips. We went camping and Pokemon Hunting.
But what about me? I have to say…summer is exhausting. And hot. And no matter how busy I keep these kids, they’re whiny and bored and they bicker. I still have work to do and deadlines to miss. So what about MY survival kit?
It’s coffee. That’s it. Just keep me fueled with my lovely mug in the morning and a glass of iced coffee in the afternoon and I promise you I’m as happy as they come. This is my favorite way to refuel on hot days (and it has been HOT):
Okay, that’s not entirely true. I would also like to add wifi to my summer survival kit. And probably reality tv. And air conditioning. I mean if we’re going to be really specific, a nanny and a house cleaner would be nice as well.
But it all starts with coffee.
How have you been surviving summer?

Good to know you found one great alternative to quench from the streaming rays of the sun! Just spend the most out of the best with your kiddos. :)

It’s been so hot here! We’re definitely soaking it all in!

How do you handle coffee and the consequence of insomnia that comes with? I guess coffee is much more popular in US that tea. Whenever I take coffee, it usually affects my circadian rhythm.
Mama Kat says
I actually don’t have any trouble sleeping, but I only drink coffee twice a day and never in the evening. Insomnia would be so frustrating!

Mmmmm iced coffee make me smile. On the inside. And it apparently makes me likable, in the morning hours, which is no easy feat. :D
Mama Kat says
Agreed. I can barely even speak before I’ve had coffee.
