4. Show us what your kids want to be for Halloween this year.
My son is notorious for picking out Halloween costumes and then refusing to wear them. I try not to be that mom who’s loud whispering in his ear, “PUT THE MASK ON!” but every year I get so irritated at him for collecting candy in a hoodie and shorts while all the other kids are festive.
Last year he had chosen a giant Minecraft head as his costume. It was literally an oversized pixelated cardboard box jangling around his head. I knew he wouldn’t like it. I told him it would be too big and uncomfortable. I told him he wouldn’t be able to see out of it or run in it, but he would not let it drop until I bought it for him and then he refused to wear it on Halloween. I threatened to leave him behind Halloween night, but it was an empty threat because I certainly didn’t want him to miss out on trick or treating with his cousins. So hoodie and shorts it was. Again. The kid just does not DO “dress up”.
This year while shopping at Target, he found a cheeseburger hat and he was all, “I found my costume!” He put the hat on and I was like, “perfect!” It’s just a hat. He can wear a hat! It’s not cumbersome, it’s not too hot, it’s funny without being over the top and he can still wear his hoodie and shorts.
He will be a perfect cheeseburger and he will wear that hat while trick or treating with his cousins this year and he’ll be festive dammit!

How infuriating! I am always impressed by the range of costumes on display on Hallowe’en in the US. The best one I have ever seen was a mum dressed as a phone box with her baby in a sling as superman,…

That would be adorable! It’s so much more fun when the kids are small and you can make them be whatever you want!

This concept is so foreign to me – when he was small I couldn’t keep him OUT of his costume!

I tried to visit the “Ghost Kitty” linky and got blocked by a notice that said that blog was for “invited readers” only and I didn’t have permission to read it. Seems a problem for a link up. Just letting you know.

There’s usually a point in a boy’s life that he decides that dressing up on Hallowe’en is dorky and he won’t do it. Sounds like your boy got there already.

I’m a Halloween freak…can’t be just one thing. Like the year my son just couldn’t decide which super hero to be so he wore a Superman cape, a Batman mask, and a Spiderman bodysuit. Fun memories and just keep multiplying. I love Halloween. Thanks for sharing.
