1. List 7 things that bring you comfort.
There are a lot of things that make me anxious thanks to my tendency to be a “what if” person. I’ve trained myself not to delve too deep into things that are outside of my control because it really can just make a person crazy. Today I’m focusing on 7 things that bring me comfort because it’s always good to remember what to fall back on when you need it most! 7 of my favorite comforts are:
1. Rain.
Seattle is THE best. Listening to the rain outside never fails to make me feel warm and fuzzy on the inside.
2. Snuggling a baby.
You have to be careful when you choose a baby for comfort because while a dozing baby is the sweetest form of comfort…they can quickly turn on you and become the thing that drives you crazy.
3. My Mother.
She’s the best in house therapist and is so good at easing my adulthood worries by reminding me that worse case scenario, everything will still be exactly fine.
4. That First Snowfall.
More specifically, the quiet after a fresh snowfall. You know, when the neighborhood doesn’t even have tire marks plowing through it yet? Everyone is inside and you can actually hear the planet minus the human activity we’ve polluted it with?
5. High School Friends.
There is just something about friends who have loved you before, during and after the most awkward years of your life that will always make me feel at home.
6. Precious Pets.
I don’t think I could ever NOT have a pet in my home. Everything about them brings comfort. They greet us at the door, they’re thrilled to see us, they’re playful and snuggly, they eat their own poop. So much comfort.
7. All My Chickadees In Bed.
Every once in awhile when I’d ask my Mom why I couldn’t sleep over at a friend’s house she’d say, “I just want all my chickadees under the same roof tonight” and I’d be so annoyed with her, but I so get it now! I love that my kids are too young to run around with friends at night. Everyone under the same roof, a quiet house, we survived another day…that’s comfort!

I am a comfortaholic. Your list is perfect! I love it when we are all home together at night, too. When we have a rare off-night and no one has plans, it’s a real treat and my heart sighs.

We have a lot on our lists in common! I have to say that I find snow in no way comforting, though. That would go on my “7 things that make me grumpy” list – LOL!

I have not seen anyone from my high school since forever. Sad face. Everyone has moved and we keep in touch through facebook but it’s not the same shennanigans.
And I agree with pets! The best — even though my blind dog walked through his own poop the other day and tracked it in the house and my husband stepped in it and got it on our couch. He’s lucky he’s cute….the dog…not the husband. Well he’s cute too :)

Our dog straight up EATS dog poop. Gah! You’re right, it’s a good thing they’re cute…but I wouldn’t kiss that face! My hs friends and I don’t get together enough but we do try to plan a few girls nights each year. It’s like stepping back in time and feels so good to reconnect with people who you don’t have to pretend you’re not weird with.

I have a bunch of recordings of rain that I play on repeat all night. It’s soothing, and it blocks the tinnitus.

We have rain machines too! When my kids were babies they always went to sleep to the sound of the rain!

The first snow is always so lovely. I like looking at it from my window at home. Especially the big white fluffy flakes.
Mama Kat says
Me too! When it’s just pouring down it’s the best!
