Every month my friend Marci and I pin a spot on Washington State’s map and go for a day trip.
This month we hit the road to Mt. St. Helens. Actually, we pinned the town of Toledo and it turned out to be a “gateway” to Mt. St. Helens, so we kept going:
I was two years old when the volcano blew and although it’s been a huge part of Washington State history, I admit I didn’t know much about how much damage was done.
My Mom asked me if I remember going to Mt. St. Helens with the family when I was a little girl and I said, “I have a vague memory of going up a mountain and feeling terrified that our van was going to roll off the edge” and she was all “Yep, that was the trip!”
The entire trip is nicely paved and safe now, but back then not so much.
When all was said and done and our day trip was over, I think visually it was not the most beautiful trip to go on BUT I was fascinated by what we learned so I call that a win!
