3.) Write a blog post inspired by the word: dark.
I feel like you deserve an update. Last week I wrote about how my son had been begging for a grim reaper costume and how I was reluctant to buy it for him because past experience shows he’s not a big costume kind of guy.
I ended the post with, “And I was all, “okay fine. But if you end up as a street kid with glowing eyes I’m going to put your costume on and I’m coming after you.””
On Halloween night Kainoa put on his grim reaper outfit and on the way to my sister’s house he managed to lose his mask. We searched the car for it and determined he didn’t actually bring it.
Let me tell you what happens when you lose an important element of your Halloween costume.
When you lose an important element of your Halloween costume you do not come out of the car.
You will draw attention to yourself by sulking and you will proclaim you will not go trick or treating with your cousins without your head piece.
You will agree to finally come out of the car, but you will remove the rest of your costume because your costume is not complete without the mask and you determine you will NOT go to a single house for candy.
You will sulk and pout and mope sans costume as your siblings and cousins gleefully scurry from doorstep to doorstep collecting candy and you will stay by your mother’s side and refuse to have fun as punishment to…I’m not sure who.
Your angry mood will last approximately 20 minutes before you finally join your family and begin collecting candy happily IN YOUR STREET CLOTHES just as your mother predicted you would a month ago when you begged her to buy you that damn costume to begin with.
And your mother will follow along in the dark, smiling at herself for knowing you so well and promising herself that next year will be different. No WAY are you getting a 30 dollar costume.
Now it’s your turn!

Peyton totally wears his street clothes trick or treating and he made out like a bandit. I don’t even try to have him wear a costume anymore. He’s always trick or treated as Peyton and nobody has said a word.
