5. Tell the story of a mistake made in the kitchen.
I can’t tell you how many meals I’ve set in front of my husband, blinked at him in anticipation and said, “Go on, you try it first!”
I find new recipes from different websites, frequent Pinterest and have a couple favorite recipe apps I use often. I’m not naturally a great cook, but I can follow a recipe and the results can be good! It’s therapeutic, but I’ve made some mistakes along the way. Here are a few pro-tips I wish I had known before:
1.) A Tablespoon of salt is different than a teaspoon of salt. When in doubt, opt for the teaspoon.
2.) Raw meat in the refrigerator for longer than four days should not be cooked and consumed.
3.) Slow cooker meals are wonderfully easy options, specifically when you turn the cooking device on.
4.) Pizza rolls can cook for 40 minutes or longer without causing significant damage.
5.) Grilled cheese sandwiches cannot cook for 40 minutes or longer without causing significant damage.
6.) Mashed bananas from jars of baby food do not make a good substitute in banana bread.
7.) Orange peels, apple cores, gravel bits, and uncooked rice do not belong in your garbage disposal.
8.) Always best to inspect your hot dog bun for mold before biting into it.
9.) If it looks like the cat has been licking the butter you left out on the counter, probably err on the side caution.
Consider yourself saved from certain kitchen catastrophes!

I think both pizza rolls and grilled cheese sammitches will burst into flame if cooked for 40 minutes, but I haven’t experimented with it. I can also guess that cooking a grilled cheese for that long will not only ruin the sandwich but the pan as well.
We now use the Instant Pot instead of a slow cooker, because the Instant Pot will stop cooking and switch to warm mode automatically. That hasn’t been the case with the slow cooker. We now do almost all the cooking with either the Instant Pot or the Breville oven.

funny. You inspired me with some good kitchen mistake stories of what not to do. Actually, with garbage disposals, a little bit of citrus is recommended to freshen them, but that’s like one slice of lemon finely cut up before dropping it in, so it’s easy to chew. I often do that. Orange peels diced up are a suggested deterrent for squirrels in flower beds and so on plus make a good soil additive—if you want an alternative use for them.
My sister once made a pan of homemade brownies and forgot them in the oven and forgot them so long they charred black.
