There is just something about celebrating holidays through the eyes of a child that allows you to experience it all over again. I’ve been so lucky in that not only did I celebrate Halloween well into my teen years and again with my own little monsters, but now as a great aunty I get to continue the fun!
I am one set of cat ears away from being totally ready for Halloween this year. Did you know a recent Frito-Lay Variety Pack poll shows “two-thirds (66%) of parents take some of their kids’ candy as a “parent tax.”? Now that is a tax I can stand behind! I’m ready to cash in.
Certainly, my own mother was no stranger to charging a parent tax. Maybe it was not so much a tax as is was a “community stash” that mysteriously dwindled while we slept at night. It was our own fault though. In her defense, she did attempt to allow us to own our own candy when we were older school-agers. However, my brother and sister and I spent all of our time counting, recounting, trading and swimming in the candy on our bedroom floor rather than getting ourselves ready for school so our payment for getting us out the door during this time was our candy!
I’m convinced parents have the best of both worlds when it comes to Halloween. We can delight in the magic of costumes and swoop in on the delicious treats in the process. Consider passing out some less conventional items this Halloween, like pretzels or chips. Frito-Lay Variety Packs makes it easy on you – just pick up some of their 40 count Halloween boxes with treat size bags perfect for trick or treating! Happy Halloween!
