3. Write a blog post inspired by the word: sick
It’s been too long, but I used to take my kids on an annual road trip to Idaho to visit my best friend and her family. One year, as a treat to my daughters I thought a hotel would be fun before we left for the trek back home.
I envisioned a night of dessert via room service and Disney movies in a shared bed. Me and my girls. They each ordered sherbert.
I wonder how long the cheesecake I ordered had been sitting out.
One hour? Two?
Twenty???
At 2am, hovering over the toilet…I was leaning toward twenty.
Let me share my top 5 places I don’t want to get sick:
1. On an airplane (omg can you even imagine?).
2. At a work conference.
3. Any public location.
4. Alone with my kids in a hotel room…or anywhere.
Okay so there’s only four.
As I sat shivering on the tile (cringe) of the hotel bathroom I thought about how I had slowly savored each tender bite of the cheesecake I had eaten just hours earlier. I had so looked forward to that delectable dessert and now here I was…tossing it back up. Not nearly as savory. How was I going to get my children across the state the next day? What if I couldn’t get out of bed? What if I needed to be hospitalized?
I called Pat all shaky and half crying and whispering so as not to wake the girls and I was all “I think I’ve been poisoned” and he was all “huh?” and I was all “effing cheesecake…I’ve been poisoned. What do I do?” and he was all “can you just go back to bed and sleep it off?” and I was all “what if I die?” and he was all “sighhhh…Kat try to go back to bed.”
So I did.
And the next morning…well I was fine, but WHAT IF!

I’ll spare you the details, but I know exactly what you went through, the difference being it was a shake from Burger King in North York, Ontario and I didn’t have kids with me. Nothing is worse than having that to deal with when you’re out of town…

What?? Mom’s aren’t allowed to get sick. Of course, that’s not mentioned in the brochure.
Sounds awful. Were you ever able to eat cheesecake again?

OMG, I feel your pain! I’ve found that the older I’ve gotten, the worse I am able to handle tummy viruses, food poisoning, and the like. Also, I’ve been sick while driving my kids to school, so I can confidently add that to a list of places you don’t want to be sick. I had to take my bathroom wastebasket, lined with the super-strong Target shopping bag, and it got lots of use. I decided then and there that if I was ever that sick in the morning again, the kids would just be staying home with me.

That sounds awful and made worse by the fact that it was caused by something so delicious. I was airsick on a plane once when I was pregnant with my second. It hit as the plane was landing. As soon as the plane stopped, I handed my son, who was about 8 months old, to the flight attendant and beelined to the bathroom where I threw up the entire time as everyone exited the plane. The bathroom was right by the exit. Not embarrassing at all.
