5. List 7 things you look forward to “after quarantine”
For the first time in the history of Writer’s Workshop, I forgot it was Thursday. Between all the days melting together in true Covid fashion and ALSO throwing a three day weekend into the mix, I think it’s safe to say I’m completely off schedule. So here is what I’m looking forward to after quarantine:
1. Being Completely ON Schedule.
It feels like years ago where I would actually wake up early, take my kids to school, come home to make my coffee and tick off all the items on my To Do List. Don’t get me wrong, I really enjoy staying up until 1am watching Netflix but this new “routine” is getting a wee bit lazy and I’m starting to forget what day it is! Clearly.
2. Camping!
Our annual family camping trip is one the kids look forward to every year. I’m worried that when the parks do open for camping, there won’t be any available spots once everyone else has rescheduled and/or my sisters are going to be too paranoid to camp! No sister means NO FUN if you ask me so I won’t plan it without them. I suppose I could plan our own little family trip, but it won’t replace our annual BIG family camping experience and it will be the first year we’ve skipped it since we started back in 2000something.
2. Dropping my kids off at practice.
Nobody around here is exercising like we should be and it pains me to watch their little bodies wither away in front of their phones. I plan on ordering a volleyball net so that we can go put it up somewhere and play with just the five of us. Better than nothing! But it certainly doesn’t replace that hard workout when you are with your team and coach.
3. Not being paranoid.
I don’t know if it will ever happen at this point, but I look forward to not feeling paranoid when I DO leave the house. A couple of times I have forgotten my face mask and I can feel the community’s eyes staring me down. Everyone is on edge and I just want to drop off my mail or pick up my milk and get out of there!
4. Collecting Trinkets!
My newest favorite past time has been grabbing coffee with my husband in the morning and then driving around to different sales, thrift stores, estate sales, etc.. to see what sort of fun goodies we can collect for his eBay shop. If you had told me a couple years ago that I would find any joy in this, I would have laughed at you. Pat says I’ve come a long ways as his apprentice! I just always thought it was junk before and why people would go online to buy junk was beyond me. But now, I SEE TREASURE! I’ve learned so much about vintage goodies that it’s quite delightful to go out and see what I can collect and sell. Naturally, the quarantine put an end to these day dates. I look forward to their return.
5. Visiting Friends.
I miss hanging out. I miss grabbing and evening cocktail with my friend Marci. I miss spending an entire day catching up with Marie and Kristi. And I miss my high school crew. My BFF’s mom passed away and I could not give her a proper hug. My high school crew rents a house every summer for a weekend of catch up and I don’t know if that will happen this year. I want to see my buddies!
7. Seeing My Family!
Don’t get me started on the number of days that have gone by without my little Bopper in the house. I miss her SO much!! Her mom is still struggling with the remnants of Covid even after finally testing negative. Health issues have spiraled and there really has not been any good explanation as to why she’s still so sick. She’s been home with my Bop and with my sister so they’ve been hogging her all this time and do not feel safe sending Harper over here. I would argue that we’re healthy, but Maile came down with a fever last week. I had her tested immediately and while her results were negative for Covid, the last thing I want to do is expose anyone else to additional sicknesses.
What are you looking forward to most?

I can totally relate to many of these! I particularly look forward to being able to see family again.

It seems we all share in wanting such simple things to become normal again. Amazing, isn’t it?

I was wondering what happened… Mary and I must ask each other “what day is it?” a couple of times a day.
I’m ready for the normal “normal” to come back, no masks, no social distancing, no hiding in the house from a virus…

I think many of us miss the “simple” things, the routine things. I’d love to go look at some estate sale crap right now, even if not to buy anything. I miss people watching.
