2. Write a blog post inspired by the word: sunshine
Our country is in turmoil and I’ll be honest, I’m at a loss for words. Between the upheaval of ordinary life due to Covid along with the current protests, riots and Civil Rights violations…I’ve been in a slow processing mode all week. I don’t know what happens to humans where we are all born with good little hearts and then grow up to hurt each other the way we do, but I think a lot of the world’s problems could be avoided if we continued to love as purely as our kids do. I suppose at the very least I’m grateful for the distraction and lightness kids bring when things feel so dark.
If you need a ray of sunshine today, just listen to my niece’s little girl sweet song on repeat:
And if you’re looking for a little more sunshine, watch this uncle/niece duo sing a Motown classic:
The uncle mentioned his niece was on The Ellen Show back in 2018 and if the first two videos didn’t melt your heart than watching her perform on Ellen AND watching her mom completely lose it when Ellen surprises them with something special will surely make you smile:
Keep taking 2020 one day at a time and when you see a little sunshine, grab on!

Bri’anna has a hell of a voice. Her uncle is a big guy with a lot of strength in his voice, and yet she still managed to be heard over him. And that little Harper video was adorable.

Thank you for this, Kat.
These past weeks have definitely been a challenge, given the pandemic, but…this past week? Surreal.
Just when most of us were moving forward towards our new “normal”, one horrible, unforgivable, moment has left us feeling broken. And sad, And angry.
The videos you shared were uplifting and brought some needed smiles. At least to me.
Stay safe.

Thanks for all the great music – I loved how well the girl and her uncle harmonized so beautifully together! – and your niece’s little girl was absolutely adorable.
I, too, am at a loss for words and heartbroken. We are SUCH a broken society, and I have no idea how we got this way. I only hope things do get better from here on out. I was telling someone else I don’t have the answers, but we sure do need some. Things can NOT continue the way they are.
