3. Write a blog post inspired by the word: haze
The State of Washington is covered in an unhealthy smoky haze right now and I read it’s currently the least healthy place to be in the world. Perfect time to plan another camping trip if you ask me!
We made reservations to camp as one final hurrah to our 2020 summer but had no way of predicting we would be going during a fire season. I’m not sure when or how fire seasons even became a thing, but Washington lit up for the occasion. It’s been awful to see the devastation they are having on our environment and on those who have been forced to flee their homes.
Our camping location was the same we visited earlier this summer and was far from any fires, although a burn ban was in place to make sure it remained fire-free. It actually feels smokier at home now then it did on our camping trip, but I think if we can manage Covid, Murder Bees, Wildfires, Canceled School, and Raising Teenagers than we’ll be just fine in this haze.

I’ve heard arguments that the burns are being caused by poor forest management, that rather than doing controlled burns to clear a lot of the dead leaves and branches that fuel the fires, they’re just letting it accumulate, A lightning strike or downed power line sets all that junk ablaze, and it just keeps burning. (There are also reports that people are deliberately setting them. I know that was the case in Australia, which had terrible fires last year.)
It’s a shame you and yours won’t be able to go camping, though…

“least healthy place IN THE WORLD”. Well, there’s a list to not want to be on top of!
We have fire season in Colorado and have been living the haze as well, but Washington has us beat this year. When it’s said and done, the forests are typically healthier after a good burning. Kinda like buzzing all your hair off after years of chemical dyes, etc. That’s been my mantra on the smokiest days anyway.
Glad you had a getaway in relatively (?) less haze.

Wow, those fires are horrible! The least healthy place on earth, that sounds pretty awful. I’m so sorry you can’t go camping.
