3. Tell us about the last party you attended.
It’s been a while since I’ve been to a gathering that could be categorized as a party. After about eight months of fighting covid, the state of Washington is back on lockdown after a surge in cases. I honestly, maybe naively, thought we’d be on the upswing by now and heading back to school rather than shutting everything back down.
That being said, we did manage to sneak in one heck of a summertime covid safe birthday bash. It had been months since my entire family had gathered together in one place and my sister was able to put together a tailgate in her driveway. Each family had their own box of pizza and participated in competitions. It was like Field Day minus the three-legged race.
It was so fun to see all of the cousins having fun together without being TOO together and most importantly, my family won the first place prize…thanks mostly to Kainoa, who managed to get the best time in a timed scooter race. Not to be outshined by Maile and her boyfriend for winning a very intense egg toss.
Hard to believe that was three months ago. This year has managed to fly by and the most exciting thing I have to report is an epic egg toss. But we’re healthy and that is more important than anything. I’m sure we’ll have another party someday…I think.

Kat,
This is a challenging year for everyone. I’ll be so happy when things go back to normal. Covid flare-ups just like the cold/flu requires people to not do foolish things like not washing their hands or touching their faces/mouth while in public or laying phone on public surfaces then bring to their face or… the list is fairly exhausting and I see no evidence of anyone doing anything different despite what’s going on around them. Frankly, they do not care period. Face coverings are only a mild help in fighting this thing. These people who go about life thinking they are invincible need to realize they are not and it’s not following common sense practices that keeps this virus and other illnesses elevated. Y’all stay safe and be well. Thanks for hosting the creative writing challenge, my dear.

You’ll have another party sooner than you think. Once people realize that locking themselves in the house and everything else we’re doing to get Covid-19 under control is causing more harm than the disease itself, we’ll be on the way to recovering from this.
I started therapy on Monday, and all the signs from the last public health crisis (H1N1) were still up.

Your socially distanced party sounds great, and I’m glad you all got to have fun! Alabama has seen a surge in cases as well, though I guess not as bad as in some places. But nothing’s been locked back down here. I think social distancing, masking up and hand washing, and more vigilant cleaning/disinfecting in and of public places is far more effective than shutting down, so I’d like to see places stay open as long as possible. People need to work, after all.
But I also think if the entire country could shut down for just two weeks, that would be a MAJOR step in getting the Covid numbers down. It would probably also cause all sorts of economic problems, but we really do need to look at the countries who have managed to get their numbers down and do what they did to make that happen.
Obviously, I’m torn and have no idea what the best course of action is, but I do know that we still need one.

What a great party! There will be more parties to come in 2021 I’m sure! Did you ever decide what you’re doing for Thanksgiving? A local grocery chain (Publix here) is offer a pre-cooked family size turkey dinner that I can picked up and just heated up that includes an 8-9 lb roast turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce and ambrosia salad! pre-ordered one to pick up next Wednesday. Maybe a grocery in your area is offering the same deal?
