1. Is anything back to normal yet? Write about the state of your state.
A snippet of normality has graced the state of Washington and I am tip-toeing into it ever so carefully. It has been a YEAR of pandemic crisis times and our state has been basically completely shut down for most of that time.
Recently our state-approved gyms for opening back up to 25% occupancy. This means the girls were able to begin practicing volleyball again with their club team and I have been working out at my local gym too. My gym only allows 12 people in at a time and you are required to make a 45-minute reservation. Everyone is required to wear masks and there is disinfectant set up at every station. The girls play volleyball with masks on too which doesn’t seem to bother them too and parents can only watch their games via live stream if it’s available.
Our school district is slowly integrating kids back into school starting with the youngest elementary school-agers. If all goes well, they will allow middle and high schoolers to come back to school twice a week in about a month. It is my understanding that covid numbers have been on the decline here, but I am afraid of it. It only takes one member of my family to get sick and then we’re all going down. For me, the fear of the unknown is what keeps me on edge.
Not knowing how each of us might be affected. Will it be like the flu or will we die? Will the damage be forever or will we suffer long-term like my niece? Harper’s mom was diagnosed with covid in March 2020 and although she is covid free now, she is still suffering. Her list of ailments, symptoms, and side effects is a mile long and constantly changing. It’s such a helpless feeling knowing there is nothing you can do to help and doctors simply do not know enough about these longterm issues so they aren’t much help either. What a nightmare!
With that being said, I do not want to live the rest of my life fearing this stupid virus. I am relieved that it seems the vaccine is working so far and I’m hopeful this means our state can safely reopen completely sooner than later.

Kathy,
Now I understand why Covid worries you since you’ve seen first hand the trouble others experienced or are experiencing from the virus. I’m interested in knowing what is causing your niece and the Harper’s mom symptoms to persist. Can they get the vaccine? Would it benefit them or will it make their conditions worse? There are many unknowns. Your concerns are legitimate.
A blogger friend who’s older than me lost her husband to Covid just days after he receiving the vaccine. The doctor told her that somewhere between the time he got the shot and before the vaccine begins working (2-weeks out) he contracted Covid. The virus was too overwhelming for his body to fight. I’m not sure of his health prior to getting the vaccine but I’d imagine those seeking to get it may have good reasons to take preventative measures. Regardless if you do or don’t, I’m reluctant in getting the vaccine just because it’s new and we don’t know everything about this treatment. Those I know who’ve gotten it experience flu like symptoms or horrible headaches. Hopefully the mandate requiring every person to get this won’t come anytime soon. I’m not ready to be a guinea pig.
Thanks for hosting the creative fun, my friend. Have a good day! ;)

I’m hearing the “expert” saying that even with the vaccine we’ll be (told to) wear masks, socially distance, and warned against celebrating the holidays with our loved ones. By now, I think you know how I feel about said “expert”…
I’m glad things are starting to open up near you. I think things could move faster, but I don’t get paid half a million to make those decisions. As for me, I haven’t left the house in over a month…

I just keep focusing on this entire pandemic being a “double-edged sword” and any/all of the benefits of being safe have downright severe emotional consequences after this never-ending period of time.
Yes, we must protect ourselves, and each other, no argument there. But, the constant change with the dynamics of virus management are frustrating, overwhelming, at best. Most states have their particular protocol and a myriad of safety guidelines but that’s contingent of people taking this damn virus assault seriously.
I’m with you, Kat. Just want to see the door to some type of “normal” living open again. My fear is that it won’t happen soon.
Stay safe!
