1. Tell us about something you have been working on.
Recently I’ve been working on caring for a new family of foster kittens. This is our first litter of the year. You might recall we adopted two kittens at the beginning of the pandemic so I wasn’t sure we had the “bandwidth” for a litter this year. Alas, kitten season came calling and who am I turn down those adorable babies?
This family of cuties comes in all shades of grey and one black/white little girl. They were about five weeks old when they came to me and no word on whatever happened to their mother. I’m assuming she was able to keep them alive on the streets for five weeks and maybe didn’t make it.
The kittens need medication twice a day to get them back to optimal health and they are thankfully great soft food eaters. No bottle-feeding for this round! Meet Saffron, Clove, Dill, Rosemary and Lavender!:
Fostering kittens can be a lot of work. I learned the hard way that they do best in some sort of enclosed crate. The first summer of fostering I actually gave the kittens free rein of a bedroom and that turned out to be quite messy. If you don’t keep up on the litter box and wash their bedding and dishes very regularly, things are going to go south. If they have diarrhea you will likely end up replacing your entire carpet. TAKE IT FROM ME.
You should try it!
Now it’s your turn!
