Is it just me or are people on the road getting faster and meaner?
I will admit I don’t get out much.
Pat still laughs about how he came home from work to find me sipping coffee while watching a Livestream of local traffic.
In my defense, there was a breaking news story that was causing a huge backup on I-5 and I wanted details.
Now Pat thinks that I just sit at home and watch traffic all day and that I’m out of practice when it comes to real-world driving.
Plus I’m getting older and old people have to complain about all young, reckless drivers.
The other day I was on the freeway and my lane was ending.
I am of the belief that if you see that your lane is ending, you should drive to the very end and merge into the next lane in a zipper effect.
The lady I was zippering in front of was of the belief that I was cheating by staying in my lane until the end and that I should have merged at the first sign of my lane ending.
I would argue that if we did it that way, then the long traffic lines would be even longer as everyone crowds to get over well before it’s necessary, zippering in at the end is smoother.
Normally I keep my head about me when I’m driving, but this lady was working really hard to squeeze me out and I found myself getting caught up in her rage.
I sped up to squeeze myself in front of her come hell or high water while she yelled and aggressively waved her arms around and although I might have taken ten years off my heart, I DID get my way and felt horrible about it for the rest of the day
I think I prefer to stay home and watch traffic from my computer…much safer.

I tend to get over as soon as I can as well, but I also live in a not-so-big city… Boise, so maybe traffic is much different here. ;)

Mary comes home with harrowing stories about getting into traffic altercations sometimes. She’s the sort that moves over as soon as she can when there’s traffic merging ahead. I think they should dedicate at least one class session in Driver’s Ed to talk about how to merge properly, because I’m pretty sure they don’t cover it anywhere, and it’s one of those controversial topics.
Kind of relaxing, drinking coffee while you watch things go on, isn’t it?
