2. Write about the last time someone was rude to you.
My neighbor was talking trash about my cat. I have that Neighborhood App where it’s almost like Facebook for neighbors and you can be a community and talk things about protecting each other’s properties and report lost dogs. It’s kind of cool because sometimes they share videos from their front door cameras and show everyone who’s prowling cars at 3am. But it’s decidedly NOT cool when you get notified that someone is complaining about the “larger white cat” and how the owner “might want to consider keeping a closer eye on her”.
Ahem…excuse me SIR, but first of all, let’s not be rude we will not be body-shaming my precious Isis. She is simply packing on a few extra pounds to prepare for winter.
He goes on to say that sweet Isis is bullying other neighborhood cats including his own and he ends his plea with, “let’s be responsible pet owners.”
Sir. None of us are responsible pet owners because all of us are allowing our cats outside. I see cats on my back fence line and in my garage all the time and you know what? It delights me! They’re cute. They have bullied my precious Isis over her cat food and they have cornered her for her lunch money and I have definitely come to her rescue when needed, but I know that cats need to work out their territory lines and most likely won’t kill each other. I don’t think.
You cannot call out one cat owner for not watching their outdoor cat when you yourself also have an outdoor cat you are not watching.
I responded to his message with something like, “Oh that’s my Isis! She rolls around the ground for pets, I’m sorry to hear she’s not being friendly to your cat!”
It probably does not help my case that she shares a name with an infamous terrorist organization but that’s the name she came with when we adopted her from the humane society. In my defense, I call her mommy, but I don’t think it would have looked right if I had responded to my neighbor with, “Oh that’s my mommy!” so I had to refer to her birth name.
And then I apologized for her bad behavior and promised to keep a closer eye on her. I need to keep the peace in this neighborhood.
I can’t let Isis destroy this neighborhood.
